Hi, we are hoping to get a border terrier pup soon and I was wondering if anyone can reccomend a breeder in the midlands ? , we live in Leicestershire but are willing to travel an hour or so, have never had a pedigree dog before so not sure how to go about finding a nice breeder

Go on the Kennel Club website and they should have a list of BT breeders.
You could also try the Midland BT Club and the Southern BTC too, not sure if they have sites though.

Thank you , we went on the Midlands Border Terrier website and they reccomended a breeder in Sheffield , so I phoned and we are going to have a look at two on Sunday

Oh good luck; hope you find one you like!
Both grizzles and blue and tans have things going for them, we've had both. I have to admit to preferring grizzles to look at but you must go on the personality of each individual dog. It's like a good horse is never a bad colour, you just have preferences!
You will post pic's won't you?!

Yes will do

, these are 11 weeks old which he said is the age he likes them to go to homes , wev'e got a cat which is going to be a tad disgruntled but he said the pups are easier to train( being a bit older) so hopefully he wont get eaten !! , he kept mentioning cc's and bloodlines (oxcroft) do you know what cc's are ?, god help us really , I hope the pup knows its comming to live with a household of numpties

CC = Challenge Certificates, they're what makes Show Champions a.k.a SH CH "what ever" lol

They don't mean that the puppies are any better quality, neither does it mean they're better if one breeder charges more than another.

And you're only down the road from me

I'm in Coalville

Oh thank you , he's not charging top money for them but just said they had good bloodlines and the parents and grandparents had loads of these cc's , you are indeed near us , there seems to be quite a few of us from Leicestershire on here

, just another question though , is it worth going to puppy training classes ?

I have two Border Terriers and my dog has an Oxcroft Dad. There is loads I could tell you about BT's, mostly good! YES definitely go to puppy training classes, its essential for socialisation, Borders are generally good with other dogs but some can be a little sharp so start early. I don't want to worry you but Borders aren't good with cats, if your cat stands up to the pup you might be ok but my 2 cats were terrified and I ended up rehoming one of them. Also watch the puppies eyes if the cat lashes out, I had a friend whose puppy lost an eye due to a cat. There is an excellent website www.borderterrierworld.co.uk if you have any questions or worries that is the place to go for help. Good luck, they are a fabulous breed and life is never dull with a Border!

Definitely recommend training classes with any dog, as agilityborder says it's good for socialisation. You need to be firm with a Terrier of any kind from the word go, they're very determined and headstrong but with the right training/handling they're fantastic dogs.

You'll be fine, I had my first JR 7yrs ago and I was only 14 - even if I say so myself, she's a cracker. I've got 3 now
