Does anyone have any experience of border terriers? OH has said that he will buy me one as part of my wedding present, so I thought I’d do a bit of research about the breed before I start looking (although it wont be for a few months yet!) we have always had Jack Russells before, but I just love the look of a border. Are they as naughty as a JRT, or are they a bit more trainable?!!!

Also, how much would we be looking at for a pedigree bitch?

I think if you can cope with a JR you can cope with a BT. I don't have experience of the BT but have been told than can sometimes be more headstrong/temperamental/sharp than a JR. Though any I've ever come into contact with have been lovely.

I *think* that they're selling for about £400 atm, though your best bet would be to get in contact with the breed club (through the KC or google it) and they'll be able to give you a guide on prices and reputable breeders, as well as answer any questions you might have on the breed. It doesn't mean you have a better quality pup because you have paid more for it, that is just what the breeder deems them to be worth.

This is the website for the Border Terrier Club: http://www.theborderterrierclub.co.uk/

I have PMd you with the list of Clubs/Societies that the KC have listed, plus the phone numbers of the secretaries for the club

Hi JB,

There is a post about them below.

I've got one and my mums got one now and had a couple when I was a kid. I think they are great dogs!!!

I'd say they are possibly as naughty as a JRT!!

My little dog Alfie is a little sod (in a cute way!

) but I'm not convinced he is full BT.

They are lovely to have around though, and very loving. I think if you are used to a JRT you'll be fine with a BT.

I would say a pedigree bitch would be around £400 - £450? Could be wrong though.

No idea about price but I love Borders, we always had them as pets when I was growing up. They can be naughty, same as any terrier really but do know some very well-behaved ones so obviously they can be trained

I have 2, one is as good as gold and the little one is a terror (in a nice way). They cost £450 each and are boys
