Bored horse who hates life

You think? :(
Yeah I must add that his depressive state started since having the allergies, he had low glucose in his blood test as well.

Mine is on prednisolone tablets (from 5-15 a day) i don’t know anything about piriton. I know that antihistamines are in general a sedative.
I really hope the immunotherapy helps if i do go down that road.
Thanks!

How long has he been on the prednisolone?
It can cause metabolic and hormonal changes which potentially could cause behavioural change from their usual normal.

Here’s some pred. Info:

Really?! He’s been on it for around a month now maybe a month and a half

If the prednisolone was given due to the hives, and within a month-month and a half, they’re still there, the medication isn’t working as hoped.

On this sheet linked below, administration time for use is stated at the bottom to be 10 days. They info describes chronic long term use to have potential side-effects, which due to it being an adrenal hormone and immune system suppressant drug, could explain his demeanour changes and food interest.

I think it’s worth having a chat with your vet about the use of prednisolone at this point as the hives are still there.

To be clear, prednisolone should NOT just be stopped abruptly, it needs to be tapered off slowly to lower and lower doses over a period of many days, especially if he’s been on it for up to 45 days. That slow tapering lower dose enables the adrenal and pituitary signalling of hormones to not be shocked by sudden withdrawal of the medication.

Thanks so much for the info! We have a man coming from Italy every couple months taking blood samples for allergic horses and then checking for their allergens. Probably will have to go through this expensive procedure as I see no other output
