So here is a little Mootbag update :D

After having a bit of a wibble after my fall, I had a lesson with JB who firmly stuck the wheels back on, told me to be singleminded, ignore anyone with 'useful' advice and ride my horse the way that works for the pair of us. So with that in mind I was ready for Eland and then the step up to Novice at Buckminster... Obviously the rain had other plans ;)

So, like everyone else, we have been stuck at home practising and seem to have had somewhat of a breakthrough with our flatwork :D

A few weeks ago I was extremely spoilt and bought a shiny, brand spanking new Dressage saddle :D :D It is the most beautiful saddle I have ever sat in, and straight away Mally was nicer to ride in, so I feel it was a worthwhile investment.

It's a Barnsby Theoden, full calfskin and added silver bling trim ;) I just need a bloody outing for it now!

During our lesson JB made a few alterations to my bridle and bit and told me to try a few combinations to see what she likes, so yesterday I tried her in a Drop noseband and a NS Hanging Cheek, as she dislikes tongue pressure and hates having her gob strapped shut but is also is a gobby madam! It seems to have a been a bit of a revelation (despite having tried it before and not being convinced!) as she is letting me ride her and oddly enough, listening to my weight aids more.
And top of the list, we have minimal tail swishing :D :D

A few pictures...

We can even go backwards now :D

I think this is our attempt at Med Trot, which is far from perfect, however attempting it in the past would have meant helicopter tail!

So that's that. Hopefully we will get out Eventing soon, we are entered in the BE100+ at Stafford and the BE100 at Cholmondeley Castle and then we will hopefully look for anothe Novice debut! In the meantime I am trying to find some SJ or Dressage to get to, but as I work weekends, it's bloody hard!

I haven't been on here for a while, what happened with your fall? I hope you're ok!

Mally looks lovely as ever :) I hope you manage to get out soon, it's not good with these cancellations (my neighbour is climbing the walls she is dying to get out! SJ and dressage are just not the same!)

It was a total non-event, I was jumping in a 1.10 Arena Eventing competition, one fence was closer to 1.20 which made me ride like a ****, had no stride at all so Mally stopped and I fell on the fence (breaking it in the process :D) However it was my first fall off Mally, the first time anyone has ever fallen off her and my first fall at a competition. So it turned me into a wibbling idiot and made me far too concerned with what other people thought. :D

Wow, loving your new saddle - just the right amount of bling! I hadn't read about your fall either but glad you're back on track. Apart from when my instructors comment, I always ride worse when I worry what others think.

She looks lovely :)

She did have a HUGE tantrum on Saturday, where she didn't look half as lovely  However I was riding in a Thunder Storm and the rain was torrential, so I forgave her (after I told her off and worked her for three times as long as I had planned :D)

Hmm, I know what you mean and sounds like something I would do! Onwards and upwards!!

Ohh, I sworeded  I find I'm worse if I'm having a wibble about my riding anyway, then I let other people get in my head and put me off and then really ride like a moron!

I didn't get a choice about the Bling, but I think I would have picked it anyway, I think it's quite smart!
It's funny isn't it, I ride infront of someone who has an Olympic medal for her riding abilities, yet I'm not worrying that she thinks I'm a moron or shouldn't be allowed on a horse. Mental!

Me too  Tonight I rode in the school with an 18 year old who events at Intermediate level, so I, natuarally, rode like a moron  But when she had finished she said Zeb was going well!

We must learn to block out these negative vibes, man ;)

Very posh saddle :D Mally looks lovely as always!

Interesting with the bit/noseband combo, as that's exactly the same combo that I had it suggested to try with Wibbles, but his issue is a bit different to Mally - he pokes his nose mid-test and then hollows, starts dicking about and then I struggle to get him back to me. Do you think it would help? (And do they make NS bits in a 4.5"? Damn wierdly dinky horse :p)

Love the saddle! Flat work looks so much softer :) she's looking more grown up

She is far softer and much more even down the reins, she still has her moments and has discovered the joys of curling up at me, although I think I've got the hang of getting her out that habit too :D

Saddle envy for sure!! Gorgeous

I do just look and stroke it sometimes :D

It's helped to stop her poking her nose and going hollow into the downward transition, so I'm sure it would! NS do a pony range, not sure if the Hanging Cheek is in it, but worth a shot!

The stirrup leathers are Passier ones. I have some other ones which were slightly cheaper but nowhere near the same quality.

Lovely horse and I'm another one with saddle envy! I hadn't seen a barnsby theoden before but having read the description of it on their website it could be exactly what I'm looking for. Time to start saving I think!

The description fits Mally pretty much perfectly too, although she is a fairly easy horse to fit saddles to, it was me that was the problem with my Dressage Saddle. I'm very long legged, but short thighed, I hate the feeling of big blocks, but wanted some support. The Theoden has lovely blocks, but they are shaped so your leg fits into them rather than against them, so I have the support but can still move about easily. I tried a very nice Monoflap Equipe, which I thought I would love, but the Theoden beat it hands down!

lovely saddle!! :D Mally looks fab!

She has literally tranformed overnight into a lovely sweet willing horse, how long it will last, who knows!? :D
