was wondering what price you guys would put on the following....

16 hh pba, just turned 7.

backed at 5, turned away bought back into work, hacked out. then went out on loan and came back underweight and very nervous.

he is the sweetest horse you could find, not a nasty bone in him. can groom him, pick feet etc whilst eating, ok with cars but not good with larger things,
he was sold to me as needs rebreaking, this was to protect him, hes still also underweight, hes not objecting to me hopping about by him and leaning on him so think the only issue will be the nevousness. saying this hes in a field by a busy road so the rattling and general traffic noises arnt bothering him anymore, tonight we were doing some trimming with the strimmer, apart from the 1st what the hell is that he wasnt that bothered.
once back in work in work hes going to be a good well built sort.

BIGGEST down side to him, is hes near fore turns out a bit, you mainly notice it when hes stood. for this reason he could never be shown....

so guys as he is what price would you suggest.

Your location makes a big difference, I would offer under £1k, possibly try £700. There's a huge amount of work to put in. Perhaps ask a farrier about the leg, as it may be linked to his feet.

Price is also based on what the horse should be able to do due to the breeding, check that out by looking at passport.

Just dont be led by your heart, it is a big decision which has a huge impact on your finances.

the leg will improve over time with a good farrier, i actually bought him as a companion short term for my other horse that suffered bad neglect whilst out on loan, but also as a project, discovered to day hes petrified of a bridle.... have a friend thats intrested in buying him. as he is. he has good breeding, was breed for the show ring.

i paid a lot less than what you suggested, 1000 isnt a daft price as he really dosnt have a nasty bone in him, even today clearly poop scared of the bridle he was brave enough to have a sniff (took 45 minutes before i could take it on and off, its the bit that he hates) once rebroken, and hacking out i was thinking 1500 possibly with tack. hes leg/foot will knock him down, plus i dont want to spend months working on him. just want him to be able to hack alone and in company and pop a jump.

my hubby loves him, but i keep telling him hes not keeping him!

We've got a youngster, rising three. My advice in anything which they're scared of, for example water (works for everything) is to keep it on them until they stop moving and then take it away once they're still or calm.

That way they learn that the only way it'll go away is if they ignore it. It's worked for fly masks/ hose pipes/ clippers/ saddle/ rugs/ plastic bags/ everything. Ours can be a little nervous, but this technique works within minutes.

Try this with the bridle, take bit off, so it's more like a head collar -put on/ take off & repeat till he isn't bothered, then try with the bit, put it in/ take out & repeat. I hope your friend is experienced as he'll need confidence from the rider/ carer just as much as time & love.

i did, i dismantled the bridled and done it in stages, i also bought a rubber bit, so theres no noise from it, yesterday we only had a small fight, then i left the bridle on him gave him a treat and left him to it whilst i poo picked, then went and took it off on off on etc, he was a star didnt even need a lead rope on, he was opening his mouth for the bit as i held it for him., the next bit is reins,

previous owners thing he had a pessoa put on him in a stable and left, that accounts for him having a fear of things near his bum.... we done that with a rug, i got fed up of him being scared so we done the walk over it, i dragged it around behind me stoked him with it, chucked it at him, then gently put it over him etc, the really good thing is he tries, and when scared it will try and go away from you rather than through you. really pees me off what people do to horse!
