So the boring saga continues at my rubbish field grass livery. I have looked at some sole use and also have name down at several local grass livery spots. Can’t afford full grass livery.
The latest annoyance is ours mine and my friends shire cross cob no longer need hay although we bought 20 bales three weeks ago. The TB in the field still needs hay twice a day. So she’s getting hay we’ve part paid for while ours watch! It’s mental. I’ve put straw out for ours that I bought. No offer to chip in from the others either! Grrr. I’m so fed up.
 
It’s so frustrating when you are this desperate to move…I’ve been there! Think having your name down is a good bet, hopefully something comes up soon!

Have you exhausted all your horsey contacts? That’s how I found where I am now, purely through persistence and my friends feeling sorry for me! Not a livery yard and didn’t find it via facebook or website etc…

Absolutely! I'm in a similar situation - I'm sourcing hay for my two fatties plus the TB who lives next door - but I'll be keeping track of what the TB eats and knocking that money off what I pay his owners for my grazing. They're fine with that because they're rational people. Can't you just sell the owner of the TB your stash of hay? £100 cash would sort it out.
 
If you know there were 20 bales to start with can you just bill the owner accordingly? I agree it's annoying that you may find there is no hay left when you actually want it, but at least that way you would have the money to put towards some more. It sounds like she owes you both about thirty quid, assuming TB scoffs the lot before yours need any.

Or perhaps you could ask that she sources her own once she's used up 7 or 8 bales, and leaves the rest so "your" thirds are there when you need them? If she really intends to just feed her horse the whole lot, when yours aren't on hay, that's ridiculous by anyone's standards.

This is the easiest way to do it. Once she's used her 'third', the rest is yours.

Just 20 three weeks ago. Got about 7 left so may not have to share with new person coming in either. It’s so disorganised! I’m getting myself in a state over something daft really. Just need to accept compromise and crack on. Wish my pony didn’t love it there! He’s super happy. 🙈

I think you do need to lay down some ground rules, particularly if there'll be someone else arriving and with hay being quite pricey this winter. I don't think you're daft. I'm stressing a bit too and we have a much more sensible arrangement, and I have sixty bales stashed already! You can't be paying to feed someone else's horse.

If you're only getting 20 at a time, I would start recording who's used what. Is there anywhere to put a whiteboard? Or separate the stack using some plywood so it's sectioned into yours, mine, hers, etc.

They’re all in the field together.
 
Are the others not eating the hay, only the TB is eating it, even though they all have access to it? It's tricky if they are all in together isn't it

The other two mine and a friends share a hay box. The TB has her own. I’ve thought of a solution and doing this has actually been really helpful. Thanks all.

Ypu can double that - Small bale hay is selling for between £8-10/ bale in the south
 
So is the TB separate to the other two? So they have no access to the hay at all? If so, let the TB eat its share! If they all have access to the hay, then I guess that’s trickier as in theory they are all eating it!

They are all in the field together but the TB won’t share at all with my boy. She might share a bit with the cob. I’ve worked out a solution by listening to you all and appreciate the time people took trying to help. It’s all about compromise.

I never expect horses to share. Which is why I've always put piles of hay out, well spread out.
 
No such thing as a boring saga :)
I am a bit confused though. Do the other two horses want some hay? (ETA: Obviously they probably want it but are better off not having it. Sorry, I'm being dense.)

They’re not too bothered. There is some straw put out too. But think I’m just going to let them eat it all nut mornings only until the weather gets colder.
