A few weeks ago the MiL was diagnosed with terminal cancer and it has got to the point that she is no longer able to look after Daisy. We had hope that my OH's aunts would be able to take her on permenantly but that option has been taken off the table. We are looking after her at the moment and would love to keep her but it means a yearly cost of nearly £5000 in day care fees as we are out the house from 6am-6pm ish. The other option (apart from rehoming which is a serious consideration 😪😭) is using something like borrow my doggy to save a bit of £££. Thoughts?
Vx
Ps. Doggy day care is £70 a week so dog walker is not much different and she'd be along for a lot longer so not one currently worth considering.

I have heard loads of bad runmours about the CT, although I have no idea if they are true. About legacy pressuring, and you having to pay for them to help?
BMD may be worth looking into, but could you not just build a decent kennel and run and work round it? I used to work dreadful hours and had my dog living in the garage with access to a fenced garden, I walked her before work and when I got home. She was middle aged but a high energy breed.
I am really sorry to hear your MIL's news. :-(

Unfortunately our garden is not big enough and I am teacher with a horse so limited 'flex' in the system. The OH then has an hour commute each way so again there is unfortunately not a lot we can do to shorten the 'out of the house' hours to a level I would consider acceptable even with a kennel and run :-/ Thanks though, interesting about CT, can't say I'm surprised which is a shame.

There seems to be a lot of frustrated people on BMD regarding messages.
I also think the issue you might have is that the sort of people that want to do it, want to do it because they work too much to have their own so would't solve the problem.

One of my clients uses the CT. They have been very supportive and helpful, and the three ladies who walk her dog are just lovely. She's not received any pressure from them.

I urged her to contact them as it was costing her a lot of money weekly for me to walk the dog for her. I do three days a week, and the 'ladies' Do four days between them.

My client is terminally ill, and the CT have been a godsend, enabling her to keep her dog until the inevitable.

You may well be right, what I really need is an energetic university student who wants a running buddy a couple of times a week ;)

That's good to know, thanks

You've got Hartpury and University of Gloucestershire on your doorstep - both incredibly sports focussed - try advertising on Gloucestershire Horse Riders (FB page), bet you will find someone :) Loads of people I know do Canicross (Forest of Dean area), I'm sure you'd find someone.

sorry about your MiL.

You are canicrossing her? contact your local group-up here at least there are plenty who have dogs too old/too young/off games looking for running partners. worth a try?

eta I found a lovely young girl to canicross Fitz for me, her dog was too old and her pup too young at the time. she was really good with him and it worked well.

Good idea, I've just joined the Stroud Canicross Facebook group :)

Any chance you can take them to school?! Think you said you were a teacher. I used to take my GSD in a few days a week (was a support assistant at special needs school). He was exhausted from the socialising! He was risk assessed by a dog trainer and vet for schools insurance.

Or yes I think advertising locally you may find someone who wants a running buddy.

Such a horrible situation to be in

Unfortunately not, we already have a school dog. Hopefully will find a local runner 🤞

Could you advertise locally (Fb local pages, dog pages, university page) and see if there’s anyone who’d enjoy dog company. It might suit a retired person who can’t have their own dog but who’d enjoy looking after one through the day. Otherwise I think BMD is worth a look.

Sorry to hear about your MIL ☹️
