Has anyone used Boswellia?

I am looking for something to help my older girl who was diagnosed with the apparently rare desmosis of the straight sesamoidian distal ligament

(sorry, really picking your brains today!!) xx

I think Boswellia is the main ingredient of alpha bute from Global herbs. I use it on my lad and it seems to help him. Not sure if that helps at all!

I use boswellia!!

Day Son & Hewitt do a range call Feel Good 30 Joint & Relief - has boswellia, devil's claw for pain relief plus the usual joint support glucosamine and MSM.

I use it on my old hunter - 16.3 maxi cob type - who has arthritis in his right fore, from the fetlock downwards. He hunts on the supplement and has a sachet of bute the night of hunting.

Devils' claw alone doesn't make the slightest bit of difference to him. The boswellia seems to be the equivalent of 2 sachets of bute in terms of soundness/pain relief.

As a matter of interest, its other name is frankinscense

There are various grades of boswellia - the top grade has a very strong smell and can put off fussy eaters. It is kinder on the stoamch than devils claw and I thinkg actually gives more pain relief. It is quite expensive I have bought pure stuff for about £40 for 1kg and some mixed with MSM for about £50 whereas 1kg of devils claw is about £14.

Boswellia is essentially frankincense and i think has been used for year as an anti inflammatory. I've a friend who swears that it helped a mysterious swelling on her dog - she both rubbed it on and gave it internally too.

Arhh, just popped back to see all the comments... Thanks people!!

So the overall thinking is that it does help, thats good as ive just ordered some!

Interesting that it is better than Devils Claw, my girl has been on DC for about five years now, and it really helped her. She has just suffered this summer with hard ground- so went onto Equipack and now she isnt too good again (but has gotten better with some rest)

The vet has suggested bar shoes, which Im hoping to go ahead with- but wanted to see if there was anything to try in meantime.

CBAnglo... just so you are aware- I have bought 900g for £20.00- let me know if you want the details!!

She is usually a good eater- so im just hoping she is OK with it!! xxxx
