Have recently come across Boswellia having never heard of it before. Its meant to be great as painkiller/anti-inflam, better than bute and devils claw as less side effects.

Im keen to try it but would like to know your experiences of it as asked 3 local feed/tack shops today and none of them have ever heard of it!!

boswellia serrata, yes its a natural painkiller and anti inflamm, you wont get it in tack shops though - google it for more info and look on ebay - natural horse supplies on there will sell it, i used it on a navicular horse last yr and it really helped.

if only 2 posts im guessing its been a well kept secret! Thanks for the links, is it totally safe to use? any contrindications? (im really keen to try it, just a bit worried as it seems so unheard of!

I have seen some good things said about it is Stable lounge try doing a search !! Did try the global herbs offering in my mares bucket ... that is unfortunately as far as it got as there was no chance of her eating it after one sniff !!! going to list it on ebay tomorrow as only used 1 little scoop !!

I'm not aware of any contraindications. It is reportedly safe for long term use and is gentle on the GI tract.

I`ve used it on a couple with excellent results! Brilliant stuff :-)

The good thing about it is that it acts really quickly meaning you only have to use it when you need it unlike devils claw and such. They need a 'loading period' and constant use to be most effective. You can use it up to quite high doses when necessary with no ill effects.

I have used the pegasus one but now find the Global Herbs - Alpha Bute easy to get hold of and very palatable and really effective. It used to be called Bute-X and was far less palatable.

Thank you all, i have just ordered it in pure form, will let you know how i get on with it. i spoke to the guy at pegasus and he said 10 days loading, but do i need to do this if it acts very quickly? Im quite excited about it as would much rather use something natural and without side effects! Fingers crossed!!

Oooh, I love herbs!! Not heard of it but I do use meadowsweet (aspirin) as a painkiller for my horse during periods of LGL e.g. now.
