I used it a few years ago when mare was coming back from coffin joint concussion - it's in Bute X from Global Herbs plus Ginger which is good for circulation. I found it does work as an anti-inflammatory/ pain killer but it's got a strong taste & smell so the effort of disguising it to get her too eat it got too much. She's back on Buteless long term, she licks that off the bucket.

Boswellia is great for any inflammatory condition. It is kinder on stomach long term than devils claw. It has an anti-inflammatory action. Good herbs to improve blood flow are hawthorn and buckwheat

Would just like to say that pure boswellia does have a smell. A bit like churches! If your boswellia doesnt smell i would check it hasnt been mixed with something to 'dilute' it.

Hi - have been considering using Boswellia recently and believe it is derived from the frankincense family as is the incense that they waft round in churches. I have been using the Global Herbs Bute X which is based on Boswellia and have mixed it in with a little sugar beet and mint to disguise the smell. Have also seen Substibute recommended quite highly in several places. This is made by Net Tex and contains turmeric and circumin. They do a 7 day loading dose and then a maintenance dose. Have also in the past bought a supplement called Safejoint which combines boswellia with MSM and linseed.

I've found boswellia to be much more effective than devils claw without the potential side effects. Metabolic horse do pure boswellia, ie not mixed with other stuff like bute x

Assume it's one of the main ingredients of Global Herbs Tendoneze which definitely smells like incense and looks a bit like ash too.
Just starting using it again for soft tissue damage - had to stop all supplements while we did some allergy elimination but as it turned out not to be food related have reintroduced it.
My horse doesn't seem to mind it.
