Hi everyone, I just wondered if you knew approx what time of year the bots come out in the summer? I'm trying a different routine with my old thoroughbred girl this summer as I noticed last summer she was no longer impressed being out at night, hated every drop of rain, every midge and just wanted to be in her nice cosy stable! Therefore I'm going to stable her as much as possible at night this summer but she hates the bots and goes crazy. Therefore once these come out she will need to go out at night and be in during the day. In the past shes always been out almost every night during the summer and had access to her stable every day. Therefore I've never really paid attention to the exact time the bots start and go away. I seem to think it is around July and August. Does anyone know if I am right with this or can they come out sooner/later. I want to make sure shes access to her stable in the day before they come out and so trying to plan her routine. Thanks for any help!

I hope someone knows the answer to this, as I would love to know too! :D

I wondered if they were appearing recently, as my boys started to do their "Bot Trot" round and round the field, but it may just have been the Crab flies annoying them.

I have just turned mine around and started standing them in during the day as the flies were already driving them mad, even with face masks on!

I think it's around August. Oddly never had them at last yard I was at. Not once in 5 years did I see a single bot egg.

Hi, Looks like it is later on in the summer which is good. We haven't had many flies where I live so far this year, probably as its hardly stopped raining!! x

Hi, thanks for your reply. I'm glad it is later on in the summer so don't have to worry just let! I was worried about being 'caught out' with them as I can't stand the thought of her having one day out with them, she just canters around almost non stop and sweats up. If its hot I worry she'll do herself real harm. Nasty bots, I can't stand them!! x
