Can anyone help/ My Lab started vigorously rubbing her bottom on the floor/grass a few weeks ago. I immediately checked her for worms - she is wormed regularly and I could see no evidence but wormed her again anyway. A couple of weeks later she started doing it again - I wormed her once more but it ddin't stop. I checked her anal glands, squeezed them myself with nothing coming out so took her to the vet. Vet squeezed the glands and got a little fluid out but said she didn't really think there should be much of a problem. She's started rubbing her bottom again though- seems absolutely fine in all other respects - any ideas from you helpful souls?

This is the usual anal glands empty time, but if she has been checked, could it not be she has some winits

left over from passing faeces and she is trying to wipe them or the sensation they leave off, bit like when dogs pass pooh and bits of grass and the grass does not quite leave the anal cavity

and the dog goes wild trying to circle and look like they are desperately trying to strain or indeed wipe themselves across the floor in a desperate attempt to get the left over off

otherwise she may have a sore/itchy bottom.
Maybe that or she needs another anal gland empty, sometimes they can fill up again after a few weeks, our vets tend to like to check them again to do another empty, I never actually empty mine, they never need doing........just realised that

but I do all my grooming dogs bottoms and advise again in a few weeks at the vets.

If she does just have an itchy bottom as Cala says above - it might be worth looking at her diet and trying an alternative.

Her poo seems to be normal and she shows no sign of trying to get rid of anything! - I know what you mean about them trying to get rid of the last bit, especially if there is a long piece of grass struggling to emerge! Everything seems to be coming out cleanly though. I think I will have to have her glands done again just to be sure

Thank you!
