And it's not a pelham or a kimblewick! Had a good chat with very experienced friend, who knows me (and my riding) and ponio, and she suggested trying a cherry roller, as I'm maybe not quite balanced enough yet for a kimblewick, and the pelham would use poll pressure and he is lowering his head anyway when he tanks off.

So, cherry roller has been purchased and I rode him in the school with it on Saturday, and so far so good! He seems happy with it, and is not able to grab onto it and go, which has surprised him slightly!! Fingers crossed it will do the trick, but if it doesn't I'll have to do some intensive work on my balance and then try the Kimblewick.

Thanks for all your advice last week, it was very much appreciated

I've heard these are good bits. I kept trying to win one for Mcfly from ebay but kept losing out. Now he is in a sweet iron full cheek bit and he seems to like it as he mouths it well.
I would love to try one ( roller) on the big lad but he takes 6 1/2 inch and I've not seen any big enough yet
