Have spent a few days schooling ben as suddenly he is loving schooling, going really well and forward (sometimes too forward:p) and is now cantering well and not bucking:rolleyes: since he's chilled his canter down in there. So he had a couple of days off, I rode him the day before yesterday to try out a dressage saddle and then yesterday planned a hack... well that never happened, I woke up my back in protest from riding in a dressage saddle, my eyes puffy, nose and glands in protest to a sodding cold and then to top it all off just before I went to go to the yard doped up on painkillers I slipped on some water on the floor with three cups of coffee in my hand, fell like a ton of bricks and like a prize plank put my hand straight on the smashed up cups on the floor... thus slicing my hand up:o So, ben had yesterday off! Today however, I decided we would do a new longer hack, he has been so good in the school that I wanted him to get out and have a good old ride, hes also been getting a bit jiggy on his normal route and I wanted him to experience somewhere new. When I got up the yard another livery who also owns a four year old had just text me to see if I wanted to hack out with her, so we tacked up our coloured boys and set off into the blue yonder. We were out for two hours:eek: although we pretty much walked all the way except for a couple of canter paths, neither boy had ever done these lanes before and they were both bold as brass, it was lovely and hilly so they got a good work out, there was a teeny granite bridge which we were sure we would have to get off for and lead the boys over... nope, they took the bridge better than the pro's. It was such a fantastic ride, the sun was out but not too hot as we didnt set off until 6pm, ben has only ever done a max of an hrs hack so this was such an achievement for him and he loved every minute of it, both boys led one of the two canters and ben really picked up and extended when he led, thoroughly enjoying himself.

it was just such a lovely ride, lovely company and actually incredibly nice to take the two baby boys out together. Just wanted to share :D

Aww, sounds like a lovely day.
thank you, it was... I thoroughly enjoyed myself and so did my boy:D
Lovely post I am smiling for you! Hope you're feeling better soon from the fall.
Cheers, am actually feeling much better today! I thought I would feel all aches from the fall but nope, got away with it and my back has calmed down from being in a freakishly dressage position:rolleyes:
And that's why we have horses!..............:);)

Isnt it just, I would never have believed a year ago after losing ebony that I would enjoy riding this much, but I do, and I love so much seeing him develop and his never ending enthusiasm for everything work related! I cant believe I did 2 whole hrs on my boy, and although tired, he was so enthusiastic he would have gone on for another two if I had let him!

Exactly this! How brilliant to read - well done Queenbee :)

Thank you :D Im so eager to add some jumping to his list of 'done its' I just know he will love it! This week i intend to pop a very small x pole in the school and get him to pop it a couple of times... then probably about once a week we will do that and only that... a couple of jumps at the end of one of his schooling session. He loves new things and tackles them with so much gusto, I want to take advantage of that! The only new thing that he is certain he does not like is water (this will have to change for future xc!) so we will be getting a lead through some streams soon too :D

aaaaand today....

*drum roll please*

We went in the school with another horse and rider first time schooling in company other than at Royal Cornwall, ben was uber well behaved and walked trotted and cantered as well as standing nicely when the other horse cantered around :D

At the end of the session we put up a cross pole, Im embarrased to say I completely let him down on the first try, sitting way to forward and taking my leg off, I dont blame him for grinding to a halt. However, I told myself off and got with the program, we did the x pole a few more times and he jumped it HE JUMPED IT!!!! he did so well. The final time was not on camera but by far the best, he took me to the jump nice and steady, sailed over it and broke into canter with no hesitation. Ben is indeed a very fantastic dude:cool::cool::cool:

Im thrilled with him and he loved it :D

As I said, there is a video, my friend is going to upload it to FB tomorrow, so I will post the link then :D
