Or whatever it's called? We cannot put a gate on our drive, and Huntley has been out on the pavement twice today. I was looking at those collars, but how would we put the wire on a hard surface drive? Any ideas?
I don;t have dogs so cannot comment but will be watching with interest. I was in the pub with a couple of friends last night and were talking about this. Non horsesy friend wanted to try one as her dog keeps getting out of the garden. Other friend who is horsey was dead set against these collars, saying shocking the dog is cruel, yet she has mains electric to keep her horses in?
Whether you Agree or disagree with them I don't think it would work with an open gateway, as they can run through them. Also of it does work the dog wouldn't want to go through the gateway when you wanted it to (for a walk) Training excellent Recall, distance sit (or whatever the term) and dog not being out on its own would work.
I have the system and the wire is buried just below the surface. They do work but you have to train the dog not just let it feel the shock over and over again. They do have to feel it once and I also felt if. If my dogs are then I will! It is short and sharp. If it will save my dogs life then I will use it...properly. My dogs no longer wear the collars, they know the boundaries and stay within them although we don't have an ungated space gates are left open occasionally.
I thought you were in Wales AmyMay? They are banned there.
I wouldn't use one, I don't agree with shock collars, and I surely wouldn't trust them to keep my dog in anyway. If he saw something to chase when I wasn't there, he'd run through it in the excitement then wouldn't come back through, just as he has got stuck on the wrong side of electric fencing before.
