Bowed Tendon

My horse was rested for one month, and had therapy because he injured his front right leg. Vet now said I can ride him in walk only every day. But I noticed a small bow just above his fetlock. And vet doesn't say anything about it. His left leg is swollen as it is reaction to something vet gave him, but that leg is fine. Just please tell me if you see a bowed tendon on his front right leg. He is over the knee, and was a racehorse for a while. Thanks!

Pick your horses leg up, gently squeeze the tendon from top to bottom. Repeat 3-4 times and if you get a reaction then you probably have a problem. If you get no reaction then chances are there isn't a problem. If you can move that little lump then it's the vein that runs round the back of the tendon.

Hard to tell from photo but does look swollen.

My girl had a ruptured tendon. Looked like two bananas on each side of her leg.

If it's old and not reactive/sore, it doesn't need treating. If it's painful at all, it's a year off, with or without blister/pinfire etc... Time is ultimately the only thing unfortunately, no matter what you are told

edit: yes, there is a bow on that pic. However it's a very slight one and if it's recent it might be only jarred and might come right. It could be even just a bandage bubble, hard to tell from the pic. Has the vet even scanned it?

ps: a month old is not an old bow. It's pretty damn recent as tendons go. old is over 18 months old, at least

Same horse? Sorry, but I really don't understand.

On your first post you claimed it was a suspensory ligament injury, did a vet confirm this at the time? Was the leg scanned?

A few days later, your second post and no mention of suspensory, yet the bowing is mentioned, and the fact the horse was having 'therapy'. What therapy, and what 'medicine' is he on? Was a definitive diagnosis ever made?

A ligament or tendon injury can only really be diagnosed by scanning, and anything other than a mild strain can take 12 - 18 months to recover, I'm 10 months into dealing with an SDFT rehab and the horse is now coping well with an hours walking in hand. This horse was not lame at any point, and there was very minimal swelling.

Nobody on the internet can diagnose your horse for you, and no-one can give you any idea of prognosis. You need to get your vet back out, or another vet if necessary. Good luck.
