Today, I had a brilliant lady out to my girly (she was coming anyway to a group, but one lady droped out I snapped up the spot!). I had never heard of bowen before so was dubious, but will give anything a go that may benifit the hairy one!

So, tunred up, very friendly lady, met the girly and all was well. Got me to walk up and down with her, tight circles etc. Still not sure what to think. Then,...she did her stuff!! Within litrally 30secs my girly was the most relaxed and in pony heaven I have ever seen her!! Wobbly liped, eyes which said 'I'm not really here any more!' and after a few minutes, was actually shifting her weight to where the bowen lady was doing her stuff! So, was thrilled that my girl was enjoying herself (already worth the money in my books!) then,...the more she did the more I noticed her muscles almost throbbing,...in her back it was amazing to watch! She was still in her own little world enjoying herself (didnt even finish her dinner - un heard of!). And the tiny little movements bowen lady was making,...for that reaction!

Would love to hear anyone elses experiences of bowen on their horse/pony. I can't wait to ride her at the weekend and see if she feels 'freer'.

But, so far, very impressed! She even walked within cm's of a huge artic lorry with engine running after the session and didnt even look at it!

:D:D

I had a bad riding accident about 6 years ago, after a week I managed to get in and out of the car with help from OH and then he and Bowen guy helped me on the treatment couch. He asked which parts of me hurt and I said 'I'll make it easy for you, the only bits that don't hurt are my feet' :)

He worked his magic and I literally skipped out to the car. I was so impressed I've always called him my witch doctor since then. Unfortunately, he doesn't treat horses, if he did I wouldn't hesitate in asking him to come out to my girl.

Worked on my mum too! She'd had crippling sciatica for nearly 18 months and was in absolute agony. The medical profession had given up and she was living on INSANE levels of pain killers (which didn't help anyway). After 3 sessions of Bowen she was, and still is, completely pain free. I'm a fan ;)

I have Bowen regularly as I suffer with a bad back. I tried physio/chiro etc and nothing worked until I discovered Bowen. I cannot rate it highly enough, its changed my life, but my horse had a few sessions and it didn't work for her. I felt really bad having to tell my Bowen therapist that it wasn't working for my horse but as she said it doesn't always work for everyone so now she has physio and I have Bowen.

My horse hated it, tried to bite and kick the lady (he is normally very nice) and I didn't see any improvement whatsoever in his way of going, IIRC he probably worsened after the treatment.

I only had it done because she was at the yard doing others and she talked the talk very well! Was left £50 lighter and still wondering what the hell she had done to my horse! She said it would loosen him up and I would notice a significant difference when riding. Truth is, it didn't make a blind bit of difference apart from p*ss him off for an hour!

So not good comments from me, maybe I got a bad one ehh?

Me, My mum, dad and my brother have all had bowen so the whole family are great fans :)

Im also looking into training in equine bowen, but having trouble finding somewere close that teaches or even that isnt the other side of the world as it originated from NZ or Australia (not sure which one!!)
If anyone knows of anyone who trains people in it please let me know :)
xx

Its great to hear than a few of you have had great experiences too. Shame about those who it didnt work for, but I guess it works for some and not others, just like massage and physio etc anyone who hasnt tried it, I would say go for it. It wasnt expensive (by horsey treatment terms!) and the lady was very good, spent a long time with her and did assessments on my mare. She was interested in the best for her, not money grabbing, which is what everyone wants!

I shall be having more sessions for my girly, deffinatley!

I'd had a therapist recommended to me and she came out to my horse years ago, horse was crippled, severe neuralgia along her neck and spine and was unrideable.

The first session was quite dangerous, very extreme reactions to the treatment and I did wonder what I was doing, putting my horse through it. Then the therapist said she was going to finish and put her hand on the horse's poll and just stood there, my horse suddenly relaxed a bit, took a deep breath and dropped her head to the floor. We had two more sessions over the next two weeks and each time the session was more positive and after three days or so post treatment my horse was noticeably sounder.

It works by triggering your body's self healing mechanisms, so whatever healing is started during treatment carries on for a couple of days afterwards. I've heard it described as acupuncture with your fingers.

I was so impressed with how quickly my horse improved, she'd been not right for 3 years by then, that I had it done on me. Years ago I'd been in a couple of car accidents close together and despite physio my neck was really stiff, I couldn't turn my head to the right at all and my back was agony.

The first Bowen session I had was amazing but god I felt like I'd been hit by a bus for 3 days after, after my first 3 sessions I had full mobility in my neck, it was amazing. It stops my migraines and helps me sleep well - I have insomnia sometimes, well did, not since having Bowen !
