This is a I just feel sorry for myself/pony post. I have a fab pony who is 22 and I love her dearly. She has been on box rest since Jan with a servere strain of her superfical digital flexor tendon and has to remain on box rest until Aug until she is scanned again :( She is allowed out for 10to 15 mins a day to eat some grass. I just feel so so sorry for her having to stay in all the time. I feel like she thinks I am punishing her. tbh she is been an angel and hasn't kicked up a fuss at all but as the time goes on I don't want her to start thinking this is her life now and start to get depressed or I am just putting my human emotions of how I feel on to her? Its worst when I sit here at work. Thinking that she is stuck in all day whilst all the other horses are out playing and eating. Sorry I am just having one of those days where August feels like an eturnity away :(

Am in a similar situation with my poor 21 year old boy who is on STRICT box rest and is not allowed to leave his stable - ruptured superficial digital flexor tendon.

He is coping amazingly well and to be honest I don't think he is missing playing in the field with today's Arctic winds.

We give him plenty of small hay nets throughout the day and a bucket of Readigrass at lunchtime but the highlight of his day - it keeps him amused for a couple of hours - is his treat ball.

To my surprise he does not seem at all bothered with his new routine.

Hope it all goes well for your mare.

Aw hun, have a hug and a hot choccy.

When my neds have been on box rest, we put out little buckets/piles of various feed stuffs; hang haynets in different places; hide carrots in the haynets; get branches that horses like and hang or put a log on the floor for them to paly with and nibble.

Also, a stable mirror (though some horses hate them!), and one of those scratchy pad things that attach to the wall.
