Box rest boredom!

After my boy's op last week, we are now embarking on a 10 week stint of box rest

I am thinking about what I will do with him during this time (massages, grooming, toys etc), and was interested to hear what sort of routines other people on here follow and any other ideas to try to combat the boredom!
 
Dont envy you, Ive just finished 9 weeks! TBH my boy was very good and I managed to read 4 books whilst hand grazing him for hours at a time.
I just kept him stocked up with hay as he wasn't intersted in toys and the dentist made me take his horselyx of him as bad for his teeth. He did like a good grooming session.

Routine helps a lot! Things you can try radio, boredom breaker feed toys, apples in water buckets, hiding food around his stable, veg/fruit kebab hung from the ceiling, stable mirror, using double nets with small holes. Do you have another horse you could keep in for a few hours to keep him company? Is he on strict box rest or could you take him for a little walkie in hand for some grass around the yard? Depending on how he takes to it as well possibly try a calmer if he starts to become stressed. Hope the weeks pass quickly for you and your lad

My poor gelding spent 4months on box rest complete nightmare as he was a young TB. Some horses accept box rest well once they are over the initial week or two others like mine don't.
I found a radio was useful and left it on for him particuarly when there was no one around.
Swedes make good boredom breakers if your horse likes them
plenty of hay
I had to put mine on the quietest part of the yard as other horses walking past ect resulted in a few holes in the stable wall!!
Try and spend tme with him groomimg ect.
I would also pick buckets of grass for him to give him something different to pick through.

Thanks everyone - my YO has very kindly put her horse on reverse turnout so he always has company. He has been in at the hospital for the last week so has had a bit of time to get used to the idea, and he was very good there and didn't get stressed even though he wasn't even allowed to put his head out of the window!

He is on strict box rest for 2 weeks then can start some hand grazing etc after that.
