our mare is currently on a months box rest in her case outside with controlled exercise twice daily .
normally she will happily leave her 2 friends to hack out ,go off to shows etc but was a nightmare to take out on her own since coming back from newmarket a week ago .
she is currently having sedalin and i am taking my other mare out for her little walks as dont think now is the time to have battles.
she was rearing and trying to go home and generally being obnoxious ,however in 3 weeks she needs to go back to newmarket so has to be able to seperate without any trauma.
any bright ideas.
normally i would just be assertive but am worried she will damage herself and undo all our hard work..she is normally headstrong and spooky so was always likely to be a pain, unlike my other mare 8 months on rest and will amble up and down the road like a lamb.

Does she have any other medication, like a pain killer ?
no vets dont think she needs one other than aspirin for inflamation and to increase blood supply. her behaviour is an exageration of the norm apart from seperation anxiety and im sure her week away was quite stressful for her, just need to be able to manage it.

I share your pain, G is currently on his fourth week of box rest and controlled exercise and I have to do forty minutes twice a day. Most of the time he's an angel but every now and then we have a "moment" and at 17.2 thats alot of horse to be throwing himself around.

Have you tried leading in a Chifney? While I wouldnt normally use one I can't take the risk that G pulls something being a tit so he has to wear it when he's being led out.

no i havent yet.
we are still on 5 mins twice daily so im hoping shell get better the more we do as we extend by 5 minutes every week .
bizarrley at newmarket they all kept saying how lovley and quiet she was,no trouble at all ,its now shes home with her pals .
weve had her 2 years and never had a problem getting her out on her own .
. i am relieved shes only 15hh ,will make me feel better that someone else is doing it too,
