What would you feed a medium weight TB on its 2nd week of a 6 wk box rest period ?

Currently eating about 2 full large haynets of last years meadow hay he generally doesnt finish them, he gets token feeds am / pm 1/2 scoop of bran double handful of pasture mix to taste and a small amount of multivitamin and oil and 2 small muck tubs full of fresh grass 1 in the morning 1 in the evening he at the mo is seeming content he is bedded on straw which he probably is munching also - is he getting enough ?

If he looks well, he's getting enough

If he starts to drop, give him more, if he starts to get fat give him less. Sorted

If he is maintaining his weight then you are feeding him sufficient. On box rest you need to keep the fibre in take right so their digestive system keeps working. Be very careful on any hard feed as this can either put on weight or give them an excess of energy that they are not in a position to use up.

I fed my mare a scoop of D&H Convalescent mix while she was on box rest, with a double handful of chaff, some herbs and a splash of Soy oil for breakfast. Then almost ad lib haylage and 10 mins hand grazing twice a day. She was also on straw, but I don't think munched on it much beacuse of the haylage. She was fine on that for 4 weeks - in fact looked fantastic and was easy to handle. She's 24/7 out on small playpen turnout now and I've changed the convalescent mix to balancer. Next week she can go out into the big field - hurrah! She'll still get the one feed with balancer in though just to make sure. She's an ISH by the way.

sounds like plenty. mine is on wk9 and gets a good three sections of hay in two haynets and a double handful of good doer chaff with balancer and a snack a ball witha scoop of hi finuts roughly poured inand 20 min of grass. she is wb 15.3 and is ratherround on it nottoosure where else can cut down with out her gettingmad and not getting food!!!!

keep going with the grass and hay but i would drop your pasture mix off and just have him on high fibre nuts with your little bit of oil and multi vit that should be more than enough!x
