Well. 24 hrs in and he's not very happy. He was sweaty this morning and had his belly tucked up. hes box walking and he calls constantly. I'm taking up some swedes on a rope to keep him amused but if that doesnt work im thinking of making a stable sized pen in the fields.

What does everyone else think?

Sorry to hear your boy is on boxrest. What is he on boxrest for?

When my horse was on boxrest a few months ago it made the issue we had worse so vet allowed him to be turned out in a small paddock next to the yard for close monitoring. Not much bigger than a stable to be honest and it did help some of the symptoms but he turned out to be very grumpy. Didnt make much difference if he was stabled or not. Just relieved some of the symptoms my boy had. But it may well be worth a try to see what happens.

I also have a horse on "box rest" at the moment and she is just like your Stanley. She will NOT stay in on her own and even with a companion gets so stressed it is upsetting for everyone.

I spoke to the vet and we have made her a small sick pen in one of the fields with electric fencing. She has settled out there where she can see her friends, and isn't walking about as much as she was in the box.

I suppose it depends what Stanley is on box rest for. When my mare needed box rest I did as the others have suggested with a small pen within the paddock of the other horses. She was much more settled.

He's in for a bruised sole, Ive tied some swedes in his stable to keep him occupied and that worked for a while but i think i might put him in the "box rest paddock" in the day and the stablee at night.
