Does it mean completely confimed to box? This is what I understood but have seen people with horses on box rest then taking them for a walk. Or can it be both?

it depneds on the injury, my horse with a severe blwon tendon is on box rest for over a year although he gets two 20 min walks but the walks started two months into br, it just depends.

The only person that can tell you this is your vet - each injury and rehab is different and needs handling accordingly - Sometimes it's imperative that the horse doesn't move from the stable - even whilst it's box is mucked out - and sometimes inhand walking for 5-10 mins twice a day is required to help get things such as joints and ligaments moving.

It seem very common for people to self prescribe box rest - the reality is if your horse is that bad it needs to see a vet. Otherwise leaving it out where it can walk around would be best.
