Just wondering. I often see people asking about box rest then paddock rest. I saw somewhere an electric fence pen that had a cross cross of electric fencing in the middle to stop the horse racing around. Anyone know what I’m talking about and have a picture? Thanks.

We thought about this - it was a zig zag affair (sorry no pics) but we decided against it, due to the twisty nature of it. Basically the zig zags were set up within a rectangle paddock, like a ski slalom...) We opted for a pen about 18x20.. This worked for our gelding. He pirouetted round in a smaller pen, at least in this one he walked round. We moved it everyday - we do not have a big area but this stopped the ground getting too poached and he had a different spot each day. This setup was in progress form Dec to March this winter and he is now in normal paddock with companion and fingers crossed!!

We did something a bit like this when our horse was supposed to be on box rest with a suspensory injury. We made a smallish pen with plastic post and electric tape and then put two lines across to half way, one from each side making a kind of chicane so he couldn’t get up any speed. It worked but moving it every day or so to new grass was hardwork

Yes that’s the thing! Wish I’d done it for mine. He went nuts when we let him out! Didn’t do any harm luckily.
