Hi - I am hoping that someone on here may be able to help or have had experience of this.
I have a 7 month old boxer puppy, and she is intermittently coming out in some kind of allergic reaction to something. To start with it frightened the life out of me as it came on so quickly, you could almost watch the lumps appear, sometimes all over, sometimes on one side and once was only on her face.
They are soft swellings which when touched you cant feel them. She has been rushed to the vet on several occasions now to be given an anti-histamine injection then they go just as quickly. The vet also has no idea what is causing it.
She was on complete dried puppy food with a spoon of tinned food in to make it a bit nicer, I have since changed her to hypo-allergenic, gluten free dried food and for a few days there were no lumps, then they came back again.
She has been in several different environments when it has happened so cant pinpoint it to something in the garden, or with the horses etc. The vet has recommended that I keep Piriton at home and give her a tablet when they appear so I dont have to keep taking her back to the vet, and this works but still cant put my finger on why it is happening.
Any ideas anyone? Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received!

Start keeping a log -where when what food etc.

You need to find what she is allergic to and it is not forced to be one of the commoner allergens.

What food are you using now?

Autarky is not hypoalergenic!

In fact it contains one of the worst offenders - Prairie meal.

Which version so we can suggest a suitable replacement.

Could be something you clean the floor with, dust mites, hay, straw, grass, something you clean the car with, horses urine, horses hair even.

Like Sugar says I'd be inclined to start with diet- biggest culprit Grains, so I'd be getting her onto a totally grain free diet and seeing ho she was from there before trying to eliminate other things.

Hi -
The bag definitely says hypo-allergenic, and wheat gluten and soya free.
Am unsure how long it takes for whatever it is to make her come out in lumps, as have tried keeping her away from the yard for 24hrs and it still happened, I suppose it will be a long process of elimination. Any ideas on any different food I could try?

Thankyou!

But the feed contains maize gluten!

I would look at a single protein, limited ingredient food with no cereal or only rice and/or oats as a starter.
Fish4dogs would be a good one ; http://www.fish4dogs.com/Products/Working-Dog-Salmon-Complete.aspx or if this is too expensive try Skinners Duck & Rice ;- http://www.skinnerspetfoods.co.uk/products/Field---Trial-Products/Duck---Rice/ or skinners Salmon & rice ;- http://www.skinnerspetfoods.co.uk/products/Field---Trial-Products/Salmon---Rice/ or switch to Naturediet or Forthglade.

You can usually see an improvement in a week or two.

Hi - Thankyou for your replies, will sort out changing her food, and yes I use Persil normal bio powder. Didnt think about that until the earlier post, so will buy some non bio stuff for her bed and mine too as she tends to creep on there in the night!
