Im hoping to take my yearling to a local show. Its about 5 miles away. Hes only travelled once as a baby so wonder what th best way is to get him used to it, also do you put travel boots on a baby?

Make sure he's happy to go where ever you want when led, start by making going on the transport the only option and make being on there a pleasant experience, then move on to loading in the open, when he's happy loading and unloading and being shut in whenever you ask him try a little movement but keep it short and sweet. For his first trip out make sure you go somewhere where you can be quiet and calm reloading him. It's not just the travelling he's got to get used to but the environment as well so you need him totally happy in his transport as a place of respite.

As for boots - personal choice but if you're going to do it then you need to get him used to them. Ditto bandages.

Edited to add: YOu see so many posts on here about nightmare loaders and unhappy travellers that it's worth spending some time making his first real experience of travelling as calm and unflustered and pleasant as possible.

I wouldn't advise boxing a yearling. At least not if you don't have the correct boxing gloves to hand. A referee could come in handy too.;)
