As my horse is now on box rest i went to the local feed merchants the other day to stock up on stuff and was looking for something to help him keep calm and relaxed the person in the shop recommended the following, but at £19 a tub and that lasting about 14 days it could get very expensive, don't mind using it if it works, so has anyone used this and had any noticable results??
Description as follows

BoxRest
Helps ypour horse with forced rest
1kg , 2kg & 5kg tubs. 1kg will last an average horse 10 days.

A new product designed to help you when you need to keep your horse chilled out when confined in a loose box. This situation may have arisen because of poor health or damage to tendons etc. Being confined without the chance of being in the open or mixing with other horses can be very stressful for any horse. In fact such a situation can slow the process of full recovery and necessitate an even longer period of isolation. BoxRest formula also supports the general nutrition of the whole body and ensures a quick return to the freedom your horse needs.

BoxRest is designed to use with TurnOut formula on the day of finishing the period of confinement

DIRECTIONS:
Feed 2 level 25ml scoops twice daily to start with and reduce level as required after 1 month.

Hi, I put my mare on this while she was on box rest for a month in December. She was pretty good on it, although I'm not sure how much of her calming down was the fact that my putting her on the supplement coincided with her having a few days to adjust to her new routine. When I ran out she did seem to go a bit loopy, but then I put her back on it and it didn't make much difference so may just have been her getting full of herself towards the end of her box rest.

Sorry that is probably not very helpful but I would say it is worth a try, if it doesn't work you can always use something stronger like Tempralax.

Why waste your money?
If you are worried about nutition have your horse on a mulit-purpose suppliment or balancer.
Most horses settle into box rest very well, the ones that don't, I personally can't see an over the counter suppliment making much difference to. You'd be better off getting acp from the vets.

Yes I know what you mean! Have ACP from vet, see my post in new lounge about my cob having a broken leg, think I will also do a post asking if people think all these herbal supplements really work, I have never been one for giving any sort of supplements and i do think that these companies probably do prey on our conscience especially when animals are sick!!

I really wouldnt bother .Its amazing how they cope .My horse in on box rest he has done 4 weeks and has been excellent I give him toys and move him into a outdoor stable for a change during the day which has really helped.Hes a tb and only 6 so if he can cope I wouldnt waste your money.Buy a decahedron and fill it with carrots twice a day and buy a big messy horse lick.Unless they are deficient in something in their feed the added supplements wont help.I do use glocosomine to aid recovery for tendons and cartlidge .I use newmarket joint supplement it seems to be the purest on the market.
