Having just read the article boys are put off riding by 'girlie' equestrian clothes I felt I should post a comment. I have two sons who rode from the age of five, pony club, hunting, polo and eventing. Our house was always full of boys - and girls. Noone EVER worried about what they were wearing. Except the one time a girl forgot her jods and had to borrow my son's, and for prize giving when the team won!! He had to wear jeans and was mortified! I rather think dear Katie Price has a lot to answer for and a brilliant marketing campaign.
My boys are now grown up and sadly have to earn a living and so no more horses. But the correct wear of hacking jackets for hunter trials, etc. has all gone by the board. There is no way even if I had a daughter she would have been allowed pink, pink and pink! A well turned out pony/horse is all the bling you need!
And keep your boys riding - after all, there are always lots of girls!

So true, it's not just riding either. I can't beleive my 4 year old came home from school upset that someone said her shoes look like boys shoes. She wouldn't be very comfy walking to school up our lane in the silly dolly shoes the other girls wears. I had a sister, a brother and lots of cousins and wore hand me downs from both sexes, as did everyone else and no one though any thing of it.

I must have an oddball, she never really liked pink or lilac, but a rich deep purple is OK. Most of her clothes are blue navy or black - other than pony club branch's red. Pony has black numnahs etc, other than XC when it has one red numnah when not competing for PC (to match PC colours which she wears for all XC ). Hat cover is black fo PC/competing, florescent yellow for hacking
