Has any one used one to ride in following an injury?

For anyone that didn't see my post a while back-I have a rotator cuff tear (done last feb) after dislocating.

Desperate to get back in the saddle & hoping a support would enable me to do so? I like the thought of the thermal warmth on my shoulder, heat takes a lot of the aching and pain away.

Can anyone recommend one? Ideas, suggestions?
Eagerly awaiting your replies :D :D

I have tried a few different ones over the years and the only one which has been bearable to wear is the 'shouldersback' although I don't think it would be comfortable for anyone with boobs  :o Not sure how much support it actually gives but it did stop the 'ache' during and after riding :)

Your physio is probably the best person to ask. I shattered my collar bone and tore all the muscles and ligaments, it's plated with 7 pins in a non conventional way as I had to have it done twice. It's giving me alot of grief at the moment but funnily enough i've found my Kan bodyprotector really helps. It makes me keep my shoulder back where it should be instead of rounding it forward. I still dose up on paracetamol and ibuprofen. The best thing you can invest in is physio to get your shoulder strong again, it will take a while, i've been off almost a year.

I will ask him when I see him next. That sounds very painful, poor you!! Oh yeah I know the one, might have to take a trip and get myself a new body protector ;) Painkillers seem to have little effect, it feels as though it is my bones themselves that really hurt (stupid I know, but the only way I can describe how deep inside my shoulder the pain is!)

Is it right that you should only wear the shouldersback support when you are riding or for an hour a day?

What about one like this? I have impingement of the shoulder and also a bit of tendonitis so would one like this help? It says all the right things but that doesn't mean its actually any good haha!

I tried a couple with a similar design (not that specific one) and found them absolute agony to wear and they also affected flexibility really badly :( I only wear the shouldersback for riding but that can be several hours a day :)

Mine was tendonitis which I ignored until I managed to dislocate it fully  It's not too bad now although I did have to build up some 'core' and upper body strength by swimming and a specially designed gym programme.

Yes, when I pulled my rotator cuff ligaments during a rotational fall.

Mine was only one shoulder and I used a sort of one shoulder sling (google shoulder support and you will see it). It was neoprene and so comfortable. I wore it to bed for the first couple of months as I used to wake up yelping when I turned over in my sleep. My injured broody tweaked my shoulder the other day so I put it on then too.

Love it and yes I used to ride in it.

Physio didn't approve. She said wrong to support a healing joint. Hey ho.

When did you have your accident Dickens? I would be worried that it's still hurting that much with little effect from pain killers. I presume they x-rayed? Just sounds a bit like you could have a bone chip grating on the joint somewhere. If it's been a while and persists I would get a second opinnion just like you would with your horse! We riders are awful at battling on ourselves and putting up with pain where we would never stand for it where our animals were concerned!

Accident at the end of last Feb, so 11 months.
Yep x-rayed twice, MRI & MRI with contrast dye. Also had an ultrasound. It can get very painful, to the point where I can feel the pain in my stomach and it makes me feel sick!

If physio offers no improvement (I have just restarted it by demand of my "surgeon" after being told to stop!) then I will be going back to the hospital sharpish!

What you say is true! We just put up with it!
