On Sunday we went through lots and lots of water and today when trying to bring the trailer out of the barn the brakes had locked on. We think because of all of the rain. When we did pull it forwards there was a loud click and they unlocked. I was quite concerned about it but dad said it was fine. I've told him if it happens again my bosses husband will be looking at it, he's an agri engineer.
Anyone had it happen to them?

it always happens!
its usually best 2 leave them off and just put blocks or stones underneath the wheels.
if they do lock on try rolling the trailer backwards and forwards if that doesn work wack the break pads with a hammer!!!

It is a common thing with Ifors.Firstly dont leave the handbrake on.When you park the trailer pull the car forward slightly so the brake piston on the trailer (the rubber covered thing before the hitch) so it's fully extended. And failing that get a rubber mallett and when it sticks gently tap the inside drum of the trailer wheels.Sometimes you get a build up of mud, grease and crap that makes it stick.

Yep, I have a Rice and I never leave the brakes on when it is standing. Just drop the jockey wheel down and use chocks or a big brick to stop it moving!!

Ah ok thanks guys at least its not just mine then. I have to use the handbrake as its parked on a hill but only have it on loosely now with blocks under the wheels.

there is also a little pin behind the tow hitch that is related to the emergency cable - these can sometimes jam in the locked position, especially if you use the handbrake quite regularly

My Bateson does it too. We never use the handbrake incase it sticks, just park it on the flat and put bricks behind the wheels

We never use the handbrake but one of the wheels always used to stick when we were reversing - it just needed servicing and has been OK since. We have been known to attack it with a hammer if we needed to reverse it to get it to a show

Having experienced the same problem with a new HB510 we contacted IW who told us the handbrake should NEVER be left on.

omg!! the same happend to my freind today as we were about to go xc schooling. what is the hand brake for it its never to be left on? i dont have a trailor, so i have never heard this before. how strange ive come about it again today!

have just bought a new ifor and was told never leave the handbrake on. i was also told never to lock the hitch lock as these can break also not ideal if it is already locked

That's useful I didn't know the bit about drawing forward slightly after reversing when parking.

Hadn't heard that one before, I always have mine locked! Don't know why though - when it was stolen they made quick work of the lock

Don't put the handbrake on when you park it. If you reverse it into place then pull forward ever so slightly. Then before you unhitch wedge the wheels. Never had a problem with ours but we never put the handbrake on and it's parked on a slope too.
