Brave pants

where did you all buys yours ?!

i appear to have misplaced mine..

all joking aside Levi has been lame since march vets where not so helpful, first vet visit "oh he has ripped a muscle in his hind quarters here is some pain killer"

second vet visit "its ligament damage here is some more pain killer, when i return on 10th of may we will look in to sending him to leahurst!" must add a trip to leahurst from the isle of man involves a 4 hour ferry!

any way through all of this Levi has just done in hand walking (straight lines really) and the odd lunge, that plus woo spring grass and lets just say he is high as a kit!

and right when i need brave pants.. well either the dog has ate them or they have ran away with my bank card and saint!!

so lets have it every one where did you get your brave pants? or should i say when did you find them??

also any stories on recovery when every thing looked grim would be lovely to cheer me up right now in between the hail stones :/

I found my brave pants through the right instructor and supportive friends. Although I do loose them again on occasions, my instructor seems to have lots of spare ones in her tool kit.

She is a Ride with your Mind instructor and is the best thing since sliced bread for my horse & I.

I also have a good friend who is a NPL Practitioner, who has helped me with my positive thinking.

Good luck, I am sure with the right support you will both be fine.

It was a case of do or die for me. Or to be slightly less dramatic, get on and ride the horse I have or give up.

Support from a good instructor is key and being honest about how you feel.

I found going to watch a lot of kids bombimg around the local clear round gave me a kick up the wazoo. If they could, why couldn't I?

I had a bad fall when mad ex YO confined horse to stable without telling me in the depths of winter and watched me take him in a hack that resulted in horse returning to yard alone. It took me 3 months to get back on - I'd not long had a baby - but I remembered how this horse made me feel when I rode him and I couldn't give up.

I mustered the right support at the right yard and cracked on. Now we are doing fun rides, unaff comps and epic hacks - three years ago the prospect of them would have made me feel sick.

I wish you luck. If a wimp like me can get brave pants back anyone can

I managed to find some to wear this morning. I took my ISH (massively over horsed) to the beach in my lorry for the first time and even managed to canter....On purpose!
Didn't breathe until I got back to the lorry 11/2 hours later.

My brave pants come and go, I have a big strong fella who pulls like a train and can be a bit of wimp and sometimes I am wimpy too. I have supportive friends and I need to get back to having lessons but I try very hard to tell myself that whilst he is strong he is a good egg- he doesn't DO anything nasty or sneaky, he's just...enthusiastic about pretty much everything!

I didn't so much find brave pants as find a way to manage my mare. She is muzzled overnight when I walk the fence back, which stops her getting high as a kite! In the past, if she's struggled with her hind gut and the grass is too short to muzzle, I've simply put out hay or haylage and she sucks it up like a spaghetti! As the weather warmed up this week, the warning signs were there - flighty, scared of rugs and not wanting to be groomed...muzzled her last night and she was wonderfully sane again this morning!!

I lost my nerve after a bad fall a couple of years ago. Then I took over my daughters pony, not a good choice as he is opinionated and spooky, afraid of big lorries, tractors and motor bikes. It has taken a good while and several falls at big spooks but we are getting there. My turning point was yet another fall at a massive spook at a big dog barking and snarling at his gate, instead of leading pony past and remounting I mounted and made him go past, then a bit later We were half way up a steep bank by the river and a duck took off. Pony did a 180 degree spin and went from being head high to head low, and me on the floor again, but remounted and carried on. It was the day I started to find my brave pants occasionally, they are getting easier to find each day. It has been a long struggle. Pony is now better in big traffic and by giving him a Polo everytime we saw a motorbike he can cope with one or

Posted too early.
Two motor bikes. He now stands still instead of dancing on the spot, spinning round or running away a few yards. I am sure you will find yours again, they are not far away.

If mine has been out of work, I turn out first, lunge and then get on. I find it helps to have someone with me for morale support (or just to call 999 if required!) I find its best to be in the arena and to ride forwards. I will usually stick to a 20m circle until I'm happy he has settled. Oh and fake it till you make it :-)
