Is anyone at / going to the BRC Arena Eventing Champs at Aston Le Walls this weekend? We have members due there Sunday and they're trying to decide whether to go or not.

I know people who were due there today and decided not to go. They aren't very happy that they're continuing despite the arena being covered in snow. It's partly as they won't get money back but it''s more because, with it being a team event, they feel under pressure not to let their team mates down. There were others who were a couple of hours into long journeys before being told not to carry on as the conditions are so bad.

The forecast is better for tomorrow and Sunday, but the danger of it all being compacted and frozen (I can't see it all melting by then) seems high to me so an idea of what it's like would be very welcome.

Friend was due to be there today and team decided collectively not to attend as it involved a very long journey and o/n stays. Think it was very irresponsible for BRC to go ahead with today's schedule as we had plenty of warning about the weather forecast and people would be travelling from far and wide for an uncertain outcome. I gather the 90 class was cancelled and the 80 timings changed - seems like total disorganisation all round.

Have you looked on the BRC facebook page? 90cm was cancelled today and there are changes to times at the weekend.

The 80 is continuing though. They moved the 80 to the afternoon and cancelled the 90 as there were fewer already there for the 90. Anyway it's whether the arena will be rideable on Sunday that I'm interested in.

I’ve just seen some photos on FB of someone from my club who has arrived there this morning. There looked to be quite a bit of snow around still. Thought she was mad!

Yeah I imagine it would be rideable, supposed to be double figures here on Sunday and the surfaces are good there.

The 90 competitors there were told they could jump the 80 course but yes,the 90 class was cancelled.
Many grumping about balling snow in hooves, thoBRC have promised arena will be harrowed tonight ahead of the heavy frost that's forecasted in early hours.

There is no snow here at all now and I’m only 12 miles from Aston. However, tonight it’s going down to at least -4 so what is now wet will be completely frozen. Not sure how they are going to keep the arena usable in those conditions.

Is that likely to help? It's a genuine question as I know nothing about the surface there and not much more about surfaces in general. Is it not going to just mix all the wet surface about and cause it all to freeze more deeply?

Tbh, I am not familiar with the surface there. I know that decent harrowing can help prevent freezing in most instances though.
Our team are currently discussing if to go
