Today Penfold and Rafi were competing at the riding club champs in Lincoln.
They went there yesterday in the pouring rain , most of the lorries had to be towed onto the showground and it was really cut up.
Today Penfold competed first in the open show jumping and had two down but she was really pleased with him because it was very wet and he is not the best show jumper. One of her team went clear and one had 1 down and one had 3 down.
Then Rafi did novice 27 , there was a plastic cup on the centre line but Rafi was in his ' I am perfect' mood so took no notice of it.
After lunch they put the jumps up and Penfold jumped again. Stupid daughter didn't hear the bell and went over the start line on a circle which was counted as a refusal , he then went round with two down again [ consistent] and time faults because of her circle. The one that went clear in the first round had 5 down, the one that had 3 down went clear and the one with one down had a stop.
Rafi came 4th individually with 68% and the show jumping team came 6th.
They came home absolutely drenched .Every bit of tack is sodden and the horse look like they have been galloping in a ploughed field. They had to be towed out and good luck to the poor juniors going in tomorrow.
Really pleased with Penfold's year he has done so many different competitions, he has jumped in front of the Queen ,he has got his first point BE from a double clear and then got his first place in novice BE, so now has 4 points. He is going to have a month of quiet riding and then his shoes off and a rest. He will have to go to the RVC to see if they can help his breathing problem but all in all a great year with him.

I hope Penfold enjoys his well earned rest and that they can sort out his breathing/bleeding issues too. They really have had a good season - you must be very proud

Yes he hasn't done many BE events [ 4 this year] but he has done riding club and police team things and travelling takes it out of him. He has been so good this year and so brave.

Well done P, R and C - a good day inspite of the weather. They've done you proud this year and both horses have earned a break. Fingers crossed they can sort Penfold's problem.

Rosie was at BRC Champs too. I had a crackly mobile phone call from her yesterday pm when they were on their way home but I managed to find out that Lottie had 2 then 1 down in the Open SJ (pleased with her because she went well) and that Bertie was naughty but still managed to come 9th in the elementary stressage.

What she really wanted to talk about though was what was happening at Burghley

Only Penfold having a holiday as Rafi needs to do some qualifying for winters yet.
They both look fit and well today and went for a hack together ,Penfold even looked a bit fatter[ great] .They are having the next couple of days off as Claire works 10 hour shifts on Mon. and Tues.
I might even do a bit of hacking on Penfold but he is a bit sharp , then when his shoes are due to be changed he can have them off for a few weeks. If she sees a team chase though before then ,I bet he goes.

She did mention that she didn't see him in the second round. I hope he is ok and he is lucky to have an owner who has his best interests at heart , and realises when something is not quite right.
Thank you I will let her know that something wasn't right and please keep us informed
