In a follow up to my earlier post:

BRC confirmed hats "should" be kitemarked, rather than must. So technically you don't have to have a kitemarked hat at the moment.

However they are probably going to change this to "must".

I am going to write to them to see if they will adopt the BE stance of accepting EN1384 and PAS 015 hats with a quality assurance symbol (and also remind them that SNELL hats like Gatehouse HS1 don't have a BSI kitemark on them!)

My hat is a German Casco that is EN1384 and GS kitemarked. Which is German equivalent of the BSI kitemark and means my hat was batch tested.

Do you think I am mad or would this be acceptable to BRC members?

I don't quite understand but haven't seen earlier post.I always thought RC were very strict and our hat that is allowed in BE is not allowed at RC xc ,are you saying they don't have the wording correct?

Yes at the moment the rule book has a loop hole with the word "should" rather than "must"

I didn't know this - the Competitions manger from BRC emailed me.

The BRC stance previously has been that in this context should has a legal definition of must. However most people (myself included I must admit) would feel that 'should' means 'might' or 'maybe', & yes the 'loophole' will be closed very quickly.
