Our very own martial arts guru, NeilM, has agreed to come up to Lincs to do some breakfall (tuck-and-roll) training. This pic he sent me was the final decider that I need to stop just talking about this and actually do something:

My first thought was "gosh, that's HIGH, I'd hurt myself doing that" shortly followed by "Durrr, it's a LOT further from a horse...!"
Since it is an absolute given that when I get back to doing some proper stuff with my youngsters, I am going to hit the deck here and there (and the last time I did, landing oh-so-cleverly on my feet was quite spectacularly unsuccessful) I need/want/insist up the practice. ;) ;)

SO: venue to be decided. There is a very nice indoor school about 15 mins from me at Fosdyke, which I think/hope I'll be able to hire for this. Or, does anyone know of a centre who might be interested, who could drum up lots of support (the more the merrier, I think)? Suggestions please. There's a nice outdoor at my place but it'll be rather chilly, to say the least!

If Neil is driving all the way up here for this (4 hour journey, more or less) I think that the very least we can do is pay for his petrol. This would lead to a small charge for everyone.
I'm happy to put him (and partner, if she makes the journey) up at my place. We have great restaurants locally (Chinese, Thai or Indian) so if anyone wants to make a night of it, we can. Or, dinner chez moi, I don't mind. Haven't poisoned anyone yet...
Really appreciate the offer from Neil and his generosity with his time and expertise. This is such a neglected area of our riding training, and should be essential imho. I was taught to fall as a kid (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth) but haven't done anything much since so I know I'm really rusty!
If nobody takes us up on it, Neil's said he's happy to come here to do 1-on-1, which would be much better for me of course, loadsa practice, and I can get my OH to video it for you all to laugh at. So, stop me being greedy, and volunteer... ;) ;)

If its going to be Cambs way I will definately be up for it - may be able to drag a couple of people along as well :)

I'm berks and happy to drive up if anyone from this area wants to tag along too...

I'd be up for this plus 1 for just watching!, any area near you really would be fine for us. I can't do weekends thought only weekdays not sure if that would be a problem.

P.s Happy to help with petrol and food costs.

definatly interested I am north essex so distance will need to be considered but cambs, norfolk ok and think Lincs will be too

Would be very interested, Newmarket based so Cambs would be perfect, Lincs not a problem. Very happy to contibute to costs, think it would be money very well spent!

this is sounding promising...
also, if this all goes well, i am going to do my best to try to book the Equichute fall simulator thing too (if it's open to public booking) at some point for us all to practise more on (with NeilM's expert help of course...)

Yes please.

Dates permitting, I would like to take part and happy to contribute to costs.

Thanks for organising.

Yes please id love to come, I could also ask around my riding club as im sure some there may also be interested as we are on the cambs/lincs/norfolk border!

Have you posted this in NL? As I feel that many of the people that go in there would benefit. Our RC caters for all levels and interesting was the ones who were perhaps least confident on a horse found it most helpful.

Very interested in this. Cambs area for us. I could also ask around RC members to see if others are interested.
Please keep me informed. :) :)

If it's going to be here at my place, then I think we'll probably do a bit of an Equine Car Boot sale too (free 'pitches') as an extra incentive to get people to come. If anyone wants to put a couple of pounds in the pot as a Thankyou, then any profits will go to either the local Air Ambulance or an Injured Riders' Fund.
I'll keep posting about it on here - I hope it doesn't count as advertising as we are not trying to make any money out of it at all...

I'm interested, dates permitting, and from Cambs so somewhere in cambs would be best for me (don't Lordsbridge have an indoor?) but wouldn't mind travelling as long as it's not too far

Once we get a date sorted, can people from the same counties / areas talk and maybe car share; you'll save a bit of petrol money and it'll give you someone to compare bruises with on the way home :D

I would be interested - quite used to falling as a gymnast is a previous life, and have recently gone back as an adult, not sure weather that would help or hinder me though!!!

I'm North Leicestershire. Kerilli, could you give me a few place names around your area so I can multimap to assess feasibility

Excellent, you are now officially an assistant instructor :D

You will find the transition from gymnastics to breakfall very easy. We had a participant on Saturday who did not own up to gymnastic training, it took about 30 seconds to figure it out as soon as we started rolling.

Hello,

A newbie here but I would be definitely interested. Having had about a 10 year break without my own, and just about to buy (hopefully) my dream 3 yo to start eventing again, I think I'm probably going to need all the help I can get

Hope I can introduce him pretty soon, and just a tad excited, can you tell?:D

I am in Cambs & happy to travel & care share etc.

Thanks

I am another one who is definately interested, depending on when and where.
Used to fall off ponies all the time when I was a kid but that was eons ago:-)!! Am hoping to event my horse next year and need all the help I can get!
TBH the thought of falling off at the moment is quite scary:-(
