Someone has asked me to break a horse in for them which I don't mind doing.

It has had no ground work as far as i am aware.

What should I charge?

Would you be keeping it? If yes I'd charge the full livery rate for your area (as in what they'd charge for exercising as well). If not charge the difference between full and DIY in your area as I assume you'll be bringing in, grooming turning out etc.
I know people round here charging from £120 a week for the horse to be with them for breaking. Price is obviously dependent on facillities and experience.
Also check your insurance cover just in case.

My rescued mare Angel has just gone to boot camp for 6 weeks for basic training and backing. She's a sweetie but although she's 12, I have no idea what she's done before and she can be quite "firm" (ie a tit) about what SHE thinks she should and should NOT be asked to do. Eating, chilling, being groomed, grazing, peeing huge lakes in her stable are all on her list of acceptable activities. Having the vet, getting her beard trimmed, dealing with her feather mite problem, reasonable stable manners are NOT. So she's gone for schooling to a local lady who has a very good reputation. She's made remarkable progress in just 2 weeks and she charges just £80 a week for full livery and all the schooling.
