Hi everyone, I'm new to H&H forum but thought it would be a good place to ask a couple of questions (and write a bit of an essay!)

I have a 3 year old mare (she'll be 4 in May) who is half way through being broken. Long story cut short, she had been lunged, backed and was starting to grasp walk and trot and then suddenly I saw something move in her stomach - turns out she was pregnant! Unfortunately, we lost the foal and I gave her some time off for the both of us to recover from the loss - turns out she needed a lot less time than I did! (Luckily there's no long term damage to her bone structure etc as she foaled quite young - I bought her after she had been covered and did not know, apparently neither did the previous owner) After 6 months I did get her back into work but it seems that we're starting from almost the beginning again. With all the wet weather and dark evenings I haven't really done a lot with her and now I really want to kick start her training and get her properly broken.

I'm looking to get a professional in - so any suggestions of anyone around Surrey/West Sussex border would be great. I wouldn't mind sending her away for a few weeks so that she can be properly broken as long as she's close enough to visit often and that I can be a part of it all. Also would consider a trainer coming to me - although I know that's not as intense and there is a short walk on the road to the riding school - She's fine with cars if a little spooky sometimes but only because of her age and inexperience.

One other thing that I am really debating on. She has a small sarcoid on her face - vet says it's nothing too urgent but does need to get sorted as may get in the way of the bridle if it gets bigger - and obviously I don't want the sarcoids spreading to anywhere else. He also said that treatment can take a few months as they send off swabs and scrapings etc and then devise a plan of treatment. I'm really at a loss as to whether to send her away or 5-6 weeks and really kick start her training, then get her sarcoid sorted and removed and still continue her training with me or whether to wait for it to be removed (which could be a long process) and continue to have a her wasting in the field.

Any advise or suggestions would be great and any trainer recommendations locally to Bentley, Surrey would also be v helpful!

Thank you :D

I would get the sarcoid done first, I had a couple taken off an old horse of mine and it did take a while...

Thanks for the reply.

Did you have tests done and sent off?

I'm wondering whether I could have her tests done and then start her training whilst waiting for the results? I've been told it takes a couple of weeks to come back..

Makes me sounds a little impatient, obviously her health is my main concern, but I also want to start getting her back into work as soon as possible.

Maybe I could find a freelance trainer to come to me whilst she has her sarcoids done and then send her away if necessary after thats all been sorted

Anyone know any freelancers who help bring on and break youngsters in my area?

My mare had a sarcoid on her face, I changed her diet to better support her immune system and it went again. Not sure if it's because of the change of diet or just coincidence but sarcoids can be an indication of an immune issue
