So I bought some Mark Todd Long Leather boots a few days ago (online).
Now, the boots fit perfectly except I'm in agony breaking them in :(

My ankles are covered in blisters to the extent where I'm walking on the ball of my feet.
Today I turned my mare out and literary after walking about 200m I was in agony and had to walk back up to the top to change my boots.

Is there any way I can break them in quickly? I'm yet to ride in them so will that help?
I covered them in Hydophane Leather Dressing about an hour ago.

Another thing is, the seam around the side of the ankle is pushing in quite far. If that makes sense?

Help and advice would be appreciated as I don't want to wear them again!
I wish I would've stuck to my Robinsons Synthetic boots :o

Give them a good balming and I know to stretch leather boots people put a potato inside, or stuff them with newspaper! So maybe that would be worth a go breaking them in too! I usually give new shoes a good massage (sort of roll the leather back on itself where possible) so it is nice and flexible :-)

We used to rub neat washing up liquid into the insides of our figure skates to soften the inside but not the outside. May foam up when u sweat though.

Oh my gosh, I ALWAYS have this problem. My feet are covered in scars from various boots I've had to break in.
I have never known any solution other than to grit your teeth and wear a hell of a lot of plasters with thick padding underneath.
I have been told that greasing your boots ruins the leather. I have also been told that walking around in them too much and going up and down stairs trains them to bend in the wrong way, and the only way you can train them properly is whilst riding. That seems very harsh to me though, and I've only taken that route once!
Compeed blister plasters are really good for cushioning blisters and helping them heal faster.

Being Military, i can tell you one the one best thing I ever did.

Go to boots, get some thick WHITE (has to be white) Zinc oxide tape, place this over the red spots where you are starting to get blisters, wear them for ten to fifteen times a day, around the house, in the garden, slowly build it up.
HOT water, in the bath tub, them put them on once they are cool enough for you to tolerate, they will shape to your feet :)
Get some leather softner, slap it on.
Get KIWI boot polish, only KIWI!!! ive tested alot and KIWI will give you a lovely shine, make them softer along with for those very important shows, you can bull them up (military shine)

I hope this helps. had my fair share of blisters and I know how you feel! (if you want any help on how to get rid of your blisters quicker, let me know, i deal with them on a daily basis)

My old riding instructor (old school type) said to wear them in the bath! So I did and couldnt get the bug**rs off!!! I really wouldnt reccomend it :D

If you have a proper manure heap that gets hot and rots put plastic bags over the tops of them and bury them to about half way up the leg for a couple of days. it softens them nicely

I missed the plastic bag part when i wore in my combat boots, spent the next 6 weeks stinking of horse pee - at least it was a comforting/ welcome smell in the least pleasant moment.

it took me 3 weeks of torture, riding in them every day, and then they werw fine. (And alot of oh *****, i've just spent 300 euro on these boots, it had better work out), but thankfully, it did!!!

Cant quite remember fully but was looking at a website recently that sold a spray that did the trick, maybe it was a German tack site, worth looking for as the spray seemed very reasonable.

My Ariats did this. Was agony. I actually lent them to a friend who wanted to try some. She wore them for 2 weeks and when I got them back, worn in! Just bought
some new boots 2 days ago. They are De Niro's and to my great relief are soft as butter and no wearing in needed :)

What MT boots did you get ? I bought some MT Competition boots the other week, and they are sooo soft, they do not need any breaking in. They are even more comfortable than the pair they are replacing!
