Hi all,

I need a breast plate for my horse and I have been looking at the shires Salisbury 5 five point leather breastplate. Its retailing about £70 which I thought was really good value ! I cant afford to spend £100's at the minute but don't want to buy a cheaper one to find its rubbish !

Can I have your opinions on them ?

thanks :D

I use one on my 14.2 pony and I love it. He fits the cob one well but when I have forgotten my 16hh TB's breastplate, I can squeeze him into it as well. I have had it over 18 months and the leather is still really nice. No stitching coming undone or anything. Well worth the money!

We've got a Pessoa 5 point. I'm not normally a fan of "named" products but this was featured in an H&H "best on test" thingy back in the summer. Here http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/features/best-breastplates-horses-499176 It retails at about £50 and looks totally brilliant. My issue with most of the breastplates on the market (other than price!) is that they look very chunky so can dominate a fine horse and the sheepskin pads get tatty very quickly. I have been so impressed with this breastplate - it took a while to track down though!

I used a Dever 5 point breastplate which was fab but I found the "fluff" on the pads wasn't actually fluff, it just matted together, so i'd go for one you can actually clean the sheepskin on :)

I use the Shires Salisbury on my youngster, have been using it for just under a year and it still looks brand new! He's got quite a big shoulder action (when he's not being lazy) and it doesn't restrict him at all, which I've found some other brands to do with my other boy. Have to say I would recommend them.
