I am looking to buy a breastplate for my boy as his saddle tends to slip a little bit. I'm a bit undecided as to which style to go for. I don't want him to be restricted so I'm thinking something with elastic might be good. I love the look of the Shires Salisbury 5 point but I'm not sure about a 5 point with sheepskin for hunting in the winter. So I think I'm going to go for one of the ''v-check' style ones, possibly the JHL one.
I'm struggling to work out what size to get. I did buy a beautiful treadstone breastplate in the sale a few months ago in cob size. Unfortunately the straps to the saddle were too short, but the strap to the girth was already on the shortest fitting, so I think the full would have been too big. He has a full martingale but it's a bit on the big side really, even on the last hole.
Does anyone know how the JHL and shires ones come up size wise, or have any suggestions for other good value makes to try? He's a 15.1 Welsh x TB with reasonably big shoulders. Thanks for your help!!
