My SIL is strongly considering adopting this dog from the local humane society. The first meeting went very well. "Misha" is six-months-old and listed as a Shepherd Mix. My feeling is that she's more of a Pit mix--what do you think?

Just as I thought. Being that SIL rents house, she can't have a Pit nor Pit mix (the landlord won't allow it).

She has turned her focus to one of these pups.

A Cattle Dog/Beagle mix

A Beagle/Chocolate Labrador (all eight pups given to the rescue by a farmer).

SIL and fiance live in a very rural area of CT, so exercise isn't an issue. Any issues I should raise about these mixes? I know Beagles can be a bit of a nightmare off the lead...

My work computer is sooo stupid and won't let me view your pics! Although I can see them when I get home

Beagles can be a bit head strong I've heard, wouldn't be a breed I would chose. Also choccie labs tend to be hyper dogs (although lovely with it, just not as calm as yellow or black labs) and require plenty of exercise. So I would imagien that mix would need lots of exercise and mental stimulation. But as they live in a rural area that shouldn't be a problem.

As for the other one, I can't comment as not familiar with a cattle dog.

I like the last picture of the Beagle x Lab

Sweetie. Very piercing eyes. Staffs (English kind) are extremely rare over here, as are whippets, but the posted dog does look very much like your girl

Thanks for the info, GinaB. The only Cattle Dog I know is in Stella's current agility class. Very brainy dog, but quite headstrong. Owner has to jog dog four miles before class to chill her out and get her to focus

I love Beagles but no they are generally not the most obedient dogs around, however this may be off-set by the Heeler in those pups. There are tonnes of Heelers around here and all of the ones I've met are very calm and obedient.

Well, they got the Beagle/Cattle Dog mix

I am so happy. She's 12-weeks-old and they've called her Crow. Apparently, she is very low-key and likes nothing more than a good belly rub. (Stella will get to meet her new cousin this coming weekend.)

And doesn't she look more like a Border Collie mix?
