Is the horse black? Haven't seen the markings as yet.

Edited to say now seen the markings. What a lovely chunky monkey of a horse.

Must find the races online.

OH was wondering why they're ponied in America but not over here, does anyone know why?

I've often wondered that myself. It's weird, isn't it?

I'd rather buy a British ex-racer than an American ex-racer because the British horse is a lot more used to being ridden independantly in non-racetrack situations.

Australia and New Zealand pony them to the start too. I'm not sure about Japan but I think they may do too. We don't here in Europe. When the Americans comes to play here they bring a pony or two with them too.

To be fair the handful of American raced horses that we have got in the yard over the years, straight from the States, have never been an issue to do anything with by themselves from day 1.

It's just something they do. Same with outriders. They have them to chase down loose horses.

I've not watched any of the racing but it looks like a strong start from Team GB/Ireland.

I watched some of it and the big draft horse is lovely. They talked about the ponying, it's not compulsory and it is permitted in this country should a trainer want it.

George Washington got ponied about I seem to remember. I am sure he also refused to enter the winners enclosure one day and had to be ponied in too.

There was a rather nice skewbald I briefly clapped eyes on too. Will be looking out for that one again tonight for a closer inspection.

There was a National Hunt horse here in the last couple of years who always got ponied to the start. Can't for the life of me remember horse or trainer, but I remember seeing it at Leicester. THe trainer always sent another of his with it (one would assume something quiet and sensible) and one of his staff rode it down to the start to accompany the runner.

Further update on Domestic Spending from Daily Racing Form. For those who aren’t aware, Rood & Riddle are a specialist equine hospital that is used a lot for racehorses including Barbaro and also consulted on St Nicholas Abbey.

“Domestic Spending will be sent to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital for evaluation. @TheRealChadCBr1 says issue unrelated to injury that sidelined him since last summer. Concern is over a potential pelvic injury.”

Latest update from the trainer, fingers crossed for a full recovery.

“Domestic Spending suffered a serious pelvic fracture during the running of the BC Mile. He is currently stable and getting the best care/evaluation at Rood and Riddle equine hospital. I will provide updates when they are available. ?”

Very excited to see Flightline live on tv, normally I only see the replays due to the time difference!
