Hi everyone.

Following on from my previous post about what people thought about that horse. In order to keep my options open in regards to a horse, i want to travel about and find some studs/breeders with youngstock who breed big horses that can carry weight.

Im not interest really in spending over the odds for a horse as some of the horses i have seen have been extortionate in price.

What i want -

2-3 year old (preferably nearer 3)
Can carry 15-16 stone
16.1hh+
Lots of bone
Degree of athleticism
Dont want to spend more than £2-2.5k on it.

Doesnt matter if they are unbroken.

If anyone knows of any studs/breeders please let me know - im happy to phone around them or even visit them - i have been to Wales, Lancashire, etc... so far and im based in Lincolnshire - so travelling for the right horse isnt a problem.

Thanks everyone.

It would help us to know what you want the horse for and why in particular you want a youngster? given the requirement for weight carrying ability you might want to look at 4 or 5 year olds as 3 year olds may not be physically mature enough to carry the weight.

As for weight carrying breeds you might want to consider Cleveland Bays or Irish Drafts as well as Shire Xs and your good old traditional cobs.

Some horses are overpriced BUT the market is in the favour of the buyer at the moment so don't be afraid to haggle. Given your budget I would look at horses priced around the £3-3.5K mark too.
