Breeding a mare prone to colic?

Should/could this be done? When I say prone, I mean can't even go out on grass as colics straight away. And has previously been so severe vet was going to PTS.

Silly question, sorry to be harsh. Complete no-no for me; would be so unfair on foal for a start that's even if you get her as far as foaling with those sorts of problems. Think you'd need to do a lot of soul searching and take professional advice before going ahead - with extreme caution.

Don't worry, I'm not thinking of doing it, but I know someone who is. We are trying to convince otherwise, because like yourself I thought it would be a total no-no.

That's a relief! Very unfair on the mare IMO; hope you can talk them out of it.

I would say no. Even if the foal survived the pregnancy it wouldn't be able to go out in the field with mum

If it is severe as that, then no, I would not breed with her.

but would seriously be looking into why she collics so frequently and so severly. Has she been scoped?
