Something that has puzzled me... and I thought I would ask.

I have a TB mare - was not a good racehorse, but given time, she would probably have been ok. Reasonably good breeding. I am not interesting in breeding from her at all, and have no intentions, but if I did, lets say I wanted to breed a full TB.

If I am right in thinking Weathebys have a stallion register for racehorse sires. These horses obviously come with large stud fee prices.

However, what would happen if you used a full TB stallion, that wasn't on Wetherbys register, or whatever they have. Say local TB stallion to me costs £500 stud fee, would the resulting foal be able to have a Weatherby's passport, and be eligable to race?

As long as the TB stallion is registered as a Stallion and can issue weatherbys covering certificates, they are not all advertised on weatherbys web site

Not all Weatherby's registered TB stallions are expensive. You only have to look at the Stud issue of the H&H and you will see plenty of TB stallions under £500. Especially the NH sires.

If you do want to breed from your TB, to use a TB and to register the foal then your mare will also need to be added to the Broodmare Register which was about £80 last time I looked otherwise you won't be able to register the foal with Weatherbys (but you can anywhere else of course)
Plenty of cheaper TB stallions around; One More Tiger, Sir Suave, Revolution, Mine, Kings Composer to name just a few and all cracking horses too. Look on Stallions OnLine, Horse Deals etc for more. Just remember that you'd have to use natural cover to obtain full Weatherbys passport for the foal; by using AI, that would only give you what I think is called an auxiliary passport and it wouldn't be eligible to race - well, you never know do you!?

Could the mare go on the Weatherby's Non-Thoroughbred Register? When I first bred from my TB mare when she came out of racing, I had the use on her passport changed from racing to broodmare and, because she was breeding WBx foals, she went on the NTR and I think that was free... Then she had a TB foal last year and I changed her onto the TB register to register the foal, and then I had to pay!

The NTR register is not free you still have to pay to register a mare for breeding on that I had to with one of mine five years ago

If your mare is already registered as a broddmare either in the GSB or the NTR thenall ou will hae to do is make sure shes in your name. if she is not registered as a broodmare you will still have to pay to register her.I paid something like £45 five years ago for Angrove dance girl and she was a V11. foundation mare. she had her passport over stamped
