breeding calendar and good book?

Ok, I need to learn about this breeding business and don't know very much at the moment!
Can anyone help by directing me to a couple of good books, and is there such a thing as a calendar anywhere that would tell me the usual order/time of year for key things?

............................is "from foal to full grown" by Janet Lorch. We have and still read it now and it's even in our foaling box, just for good measure. It's writing is a little dated, but it's all very good stuff and if you follow it to the letter you'll never put a foot wrong. You can get it on amazon.co.uk

I second that, it's a bible on our yard, it's so easy to read, full of very useful advice. Ours is crumpled, crusty and covered in coffee! had it years and it's still the best book around for breeding. There's Panic if we can't find it at the start of the foaling season!!!!!

Me too, I keep it by the bed, how sad am I, for those in the middle of the night panic thoughts...

Speakeasy, there's nothing sad about it, this is the most exciting time of the year for everyone in breeding, and rereading Janet's words is as annual a tradition as my bath ("whether I need it or not!", Elizabeth I).

Definitely agree - I re-read the book every year at the start of the foaling season!
