hi all. You msy remember i posted on here a while ago about getting a 5yr old mare indoctroxahorn. Well i got her and she's fab. Unfortunatley life isn't that simple. Thre is a chance i may have to change my job which doesn't leave me much time to bring on a rather green horse. My question is, how does breeding loans work? Would there be much intrest? Has anyone done it before and how'd it go? Was always my intention to try breed from her in the future and it would be nice to see how she gets on with someone with pleanty of ecperience. Just an idea, any thoughts?excuse the typing i'm using my phone

I would never have a mare on breeding loan again, it all went wrong spent a fortune getting the mare into foal only to be told by the owner that she wanted her back at her yard to foal and i would have to pay for the privalige. I ended up giving the mare back to the owner before the foal was born. There would have only been problems when the foal arrived never again, i then went out and bought my own mares i can do what i want with them when i want without anyone sticking there noise in.
But dont let this put you of if you get a proper contract written up then there should be no problems there are many loving people out there that would love to loan a beautiful mare for breeding.

i see your point. What extra kind of things would need to be added to a breeding loan? Surley the foal would belong to the loanee?

Aaagh Jasmineduke, you poor thing, that sounds terrible!
I was just thinking of putting my 15.2 TB mare out on a breeding loan as well, although if I could find the right home I would be happy for it to be a permanent loan, so slightly different I guess.
Perhaps there is a "breeding loan contract" somewhere on the internet?

Mrs magoo and I have a fab relationship and we have her mare, don't be put off they can work out. If you PM Mrs M she has a loan agreement.

Ahh thanks S :) all working great so far....

Yes I have a copy of a loan contract which i orginally got from someone else on here and it's checked by a solicitor. PM me if you want a copy :)

I've used the same loan agreement for ER23 and myself and it's working very well. This is also the second breeding loan I've done (in that my mares have been loaned out) and as long as you make sure everything is covered from both sides, you have checked out their skills and way of management, you respect the people who are loaning too, they don't want you looking over their shoulder every five minutes, then everything should be fine; it's when that respect for each other breaks down is when you might have a problem but as long as you were happy to have placed your horse in their care from the start and did your homework, you shouldn't have any problems.

That is really interesting as I am going to loan my Wish Upon A Star at the end of the yr to be covered as a 3yr old. I will PM for agreements if that is OK.
