I went, and saw lots of familiar faces there - it was a brilliant day! Can't believe how the number and quality of the stallions has improved since I first started going four years ago - its a real credit to all the mega work that Shirley puts in.
Caretino Glory stole the show (but I'm biased!!), he has such amazing presence, and his youngstock are really starting to make an impact now in all the disciplines. Nederland F also has some very impressive progeny results coming through, and all the younger stallions are out competing and doing well - one example is Warrior, (Tangelo vd Zuuthoeve x Heartbreaker) who had numerous wins in 2008 and has been selected for the BEF Equine Pathway.
I love Shirley's policy of not wrapping her stallions in cotton wool, getting them out competing, but also not over-facing them and pushing them too hard too young. She really makes a point of selecting for temperament as well as outstanding talent - it showed! We saw a number of youngsters who had only been backed very recently who were incredibly well behaved in the arena - no tantrums or hissy fits!!!
There's a new young stallion who I would love to use this year or next - Buddaire (his sire, Thallot K, was by Corland, and his damline is really impressive). He already has great presence and a lovely fluent jump, though still green.
PS ..... and the lemon drizzle cake was the best yet!!
Fab day and I literally took HUNDREDS of photos so if anyone wants any of any particular stallion then just ask and I will post them!
The young up and coming boys are simply superb and very very exciting for the future.....their Thunder vd Zuuthoeve boy El Thuder, who we used in 2007 is going from strength to strength and always manages to make the crowd go oooohhhhh when he first jumps. As RBM said, Warrior is incredibly impressive...not only his jumping but also his flat work...he did the pas de deux this year and whilst he had never had a dble bridle before the previous day you would never have known it! Will out a pic of him jumping and flatwork below.....
Their Diamant de Semilly stallion is also very impressive...he is a BIG boy at about 17.2 and a substantial sort even though his pedigree has a lot of blood in there....he has a lovely attitude as well as proving to be very talented. They have a new Darco stallion out of a TBx mare who is very athletic and scopy. One of my other favourites is their young coloured stallion Nederland Esquire....it is going to be another year before he really grows into his own BUT he is truly incredibly talented!
Thanks for the photos ER23, my camera packed up, typical! So glad I went though.
Any chance of a couple more pics? Especially of El Thuder and Nederland Esquire thinking of putting one of them to my mare this season... and any more of Caretino Glory (just because he really is a sexy beasty) shame he's a bit sharp for my girl!
Not forgetting poor old Fred, he did look sorry for himself in the stable, not surprised though. Would loved to have seen him under saddle, looking forward to his return!
What a lovely selection of stallions, well done Shirley!
Hamilton Tropics what a nice horse! He has the most amazing temperament, so very chilled, big lad, nice jump apparently jumping 1.40 tracks, seems really 'easy to do'.
I would love to use him but ive heard his foals are rather large... Shame i think he sounds perfect for a hot mare.
I have a Hamilton Tropics yearling he is also very laid back but looks very similar to his father and I dont think he is that huge for his age. He was born May last year. If I can work it out I will add his picture

Thanks so much for the pics er23, El Thuder is lovely, what did you put him to?
Also, do the foals have nice temperaments? Sorry for all the questions, its my first time breeding and looking for Mr.Right...

Hi newsquest! I can tell you a little more about the 2 El Thuder boys, as am co-owner of one - Tam. He is out of a Beachtime mare who is a typical redhead! Quite sharp, not always predictable, and can be very full of herself, though an excellent mum. His half-brother is out of a Welsh D x coloured mare, very placid and laid back .... both boys are the calmest sweetest tempered yearlings that you can imagine - neither has yet been cut - so I think that probably indicates that their sire passes down his temperament!
Was a fantastic day I can definitely vouch for the two El Thuder yearlings, led by an 11 year old girl and quiet and lambs! Fred has lovely babies of all shapes and sizes too all with very nice temperaments from what I saw.
My favourites on the day were Nederland F, Darcobal Fravanca (Bond) and Boston (gelding though). All were lovely though and performed well.
Bond:
Boston (grey) and Darco Charm (image of Fred and huge!)
My first visit and have to say I was very impressed by caretino Glory. Very much my type, neat blood type, very athletic, very good mover for a horse bred to jump, but then his sire is a Grand Prix dressage horse. And he has a certain air about him that I loved.
I also like the look of El Thunder, again a real blood type. And although he was a bit big and substantial for my type of mares, Warrior will be an interesting horse to watch as what a lovely attitude he had to everything he was asked to do
As babies - Max on left is out of the WPB mare and Tam on right is out of the Beachtime mare....Max is about 2.5 wks old here and Tam is a couple of days old.
Nice to see so many lovely pics and comments, thanks all.
Re Hamilton Tropics, he doesn't throw particularly huge foals- his dam was only 15.1!! And his full sister is only 16hh.
Fred had a small operation to close the nephrasplenic gap above the spleen, he is recovering well, but on vets advice they said to sedate him to parade, he only had a wee drop of sedivet but as he has never been sedated in all the time I've owned him we had no idea he would be so sensitive to the drug!! He looked like he was totally out of it! [he only had 0.4ml sedivet]
