Does anyone have any evidence that BY actually works? Has any one on this forum tried feeding BY and NOT rugging or applying topical traeatments?
I normally rug mine early up til June/july then apply benzyl benzoate later in the season when not rugged.
I would love to try something else like BY if that means no need to rug or use lotions.

I feed brewers yeast in the form of a marmite sandwich all year round to my shettie. This together with nettex itch stop during the worst times has helped amazingly.

I wasnt convinced but last yr i bought global herbs duper scratch and it smells like absolute hell but it works. Wouldnt leave without the SI rug but i swear by the superskratch.

I feed BY. One of my mares stopped eating it last summer & was scratching like mad after a couple of weeks. It took me a while to link the 2, but when i did i started making a paste & syringing it into her like a wormer. Soon kicked back in & she stopped itching again. It was the first summer that her tail hasnt been rubbed off since we've had her! :)

I have just started my oldie back on it as she has gone nuts with the bloody midges already!!
She had it last year and it did seem to help together with a good dose of Coopers each week.

My mare suffers from bad sweet itch, and someone recommended using brewers yeast last year. I put 6 tablets in her feed everyday, but I didn't want to risk not feeding her it for a few days to see if it was actually helping! I used BR alongside a rug, and various other sprays, lotions and potions...would never be able to use it just on its own with my mare. Also the global herbs skratch supplement seemed to work well...it was incredibly hard to get her to eat it though (don't blame her!) literally tried everything to get her to eat it, but no luck, so sadly she got itchier again when she started refusing to eat it after a few weeks :(
