Please correct me if Iam wrong but Ive heard/read some where that you can feed brewers yeast to dogs that scratch. My friend has a Westhighland White terrier who has scratchy skin, he hasnt got fleas or anything and has expensive food for sensative skin, but they have been told "Westies" are prone to scratching skin. The vet says he can have Prednisalone tablets for the rest of his life but they dont really want to go down the steroid route if poss. Any suggestions greatly appreciated or answers to the brewers yeast.

Have no idea about using it in dogs but it does work wonders for my itchy pony. He's a native and if I run out, within a few days he is rubbing his mane and tail like mad, he doesn't have sweetitch either, just likes scratching! I'd definitely try it on my dogs of they got itchy.

I'm another fan of sulphur; either in the rock form which you should be able to get from any petshop or you can get capsules from the chemist off the herbal counter which I think are less than a fiver for 120. I feed them only as they're needed as I don't want him to become immune to the relief they give him. I wrap just one capsule in some cheese/ham, whatever I've got, once a day as he needs them and they work very quickly.

We have an 'itchy' dog that non of the remedies have worked on. When she starts to get itchy we take her to the vets to have her anal glands emptied and she has a short course of steroids on a reducing dose. This usually sorts her out for months.
Good luck with your friends dog.
